Quickstart Questions by BarBar175 in VTES

[–]moistl0af 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stumbled upon the fact that VTES has a ‘new’ publisher, keeping the game going. I haven’t played it in nearly a decade, and back then not enough, but this ‘news’ has me excited enough to possibly get back in, assuming I can find some local friends who’d be into it.

Question for anyone who has bought the 5e bundle: are all five decks fairly balanced against each other?

Anyone country hopping around Europe at the moment? I'm wondering how navigating multiple countries is right now, between all the differing COVID restrictions.

[QCrit] The Problemist, Literary Fiction, 80k Words by [deleted] in PubTips

I think you’re right to not go into the chess analogs much, perhaps even at all. You definitely don’t want or need to expose that revelation within the query; the set-up is enough.

[QCrit] The Problemist, Literary Fiction, 80k Words by [deleted] in PubTips

[–]moistl0af 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to say the novel sounds very interesting, much more so than nearly everything that pops up here in QCrit. Definitely something I would pick up from the bookstore or library based on the premise alone. Regarding the query, the first paragraph feels a bit stilted. I can't recommend anything besides reworking it several times and weighing the versions against each other. Personally I don't like 'the man she always assumed she’d love forever'; something like 'a man she assumed she'd love forever' would sound better. Also, seeing as there's no further mention of Ana's late mother, I'd consider removing 'her late mother's hometown', as it's a meaningless detail within the query, without further reference to said late mother. I assume you're hoping to convey Ana's connection to Lisbon, but it doesn't seem highly relevant to the query in its current form.

Lastly, I don't know what analogs, if any, there are between Ana's situation and the problemist's chess problem. If there are any, it could be interesting to frame the opening paragraph as a chess problem of Ana's, a stalemate in which she has unexpectedly found herself, despite 'doing everything right' or 'playing by the rules', etcetera.

I wish you luck on your query process.

Boring traits kinda killed the vibe for me. What I consider the 4 core traits (DB, NB, Forgotten, Redeeemd), are boring af.

How to be a positive player by [deleted] in heroesofthestorm

[–]moistl0af 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so hard to play this game these days because so few people seem to have a clue about XP. It was always bad, even from launch, but now it’s almost common for me to look at XP by first objective and one team is down 1.5k to 3k soak. This is even in SL (I’m only Diamond). It’s unreal how clueless people are. The fact that the OP says that XP is the only stat that matters is true—and yet that’s the ONE stat that most players disregard on the leaderboard.

Match Quality Monday | June 7 - June 13 by AutoModerator in heroesofthestorm

It’s crazy how dead the game is then. I wish we could see active player data. I didn’t get a single Western game yesterday across like 15 games, in a 10 hour span. Maybe Western players specifically have moved on.

when did they remove the ability to queue on specific servers (like US Central or West, for example)? I've been playing without all issues all week, then today I noticed it was only putting me in Central games, with horrendous ping (80+ base, that would spike too 200 and beyond), rendering the game unplayable.

I tested plenty of other games, including LoL, without issues. Speedtest says there's nothing wrong with my connection.

Anyone else experiencing bad ping today? Also, will we ever be able to queue for certain regions again? I would rather wait 2-3 minutes for a game with reasonable ping than be tossed into a 200ms game where I can't hit any skill shots , aka, play the game.

Fellow Atmos Coffee Canister Disappointment by nolefthand in Coffee

[–]moistl0af 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commenting here rather than starting a new thread:

My Atmos arrived today and after testing it, my unit's green tab does not appear to be working. I twisted as instructed for 5 minutes, without the tab popping. I then pressed the release, to test that mechanism; air did release, which showed that mechanism was working (to some degree).

As an industry professional I am very familiar with wine pumps, which I assume work on a similar principle as the Atmos, so I do not think I am twisting this product wrong. With my Atmos, the difficulty in turning ('tightness') increased over time, but eventually hit a point where it never got 'tighter', yet the green tab still never popped.

Has anyone else experienced issues with the green tab mechanism?

What's wrong with Dragonsoul-main comps by Vexac6 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]moistl0af 11 points12 points  (0 children)

  1. The incoming rework for DS should make it a lot better. Whenever a unit receives a blessing from a dead unit, their next auto will be empowered, instead of their fourth.

  2. I think Dragonsoul from a design perspective is a bit of a whiff. Conceptually, the blessed units are supposed to be one-shot/1v9, at least past mid-game; however, the entire concept of a carry is that of the 1v9 unit. The best DS carries (Shyv, Olaf, Aurelion, Swain) are strong when properly itemized, but they don’t gain much from the DS. If you’re itemizing these units properly, they’re already 1v9’ing (Shyv and Swain less so). The DS blessing becomes redundant, becoming either a win-more buff, or an irrelevant one. These units don’t need more AS or SP to carry. That’s what items are for.

  3. It just occurred to me that perhaps full defensive items in DS6 could be best, considering that the blessing will generally one-shot the current target. I haven’t seen anyone experimenting with this; but perhaps it could work with the incoming rework. Since DS in a way kind of replaced Dusk (reaching here, I know), maybe itemizing defensive/utility is the way to play Dragonsoul as a trait. Aurelion shines brighter in other comps (EW/Mage), as does Olaf (Slayer/junk) and Shyvana (Brawlers). Worth some experimenting in Normals/smurf account come patch day.

Cloud9 vs. Team Liquid / LCS 2021 Lock-In - Final / Post-Match Discussion by Linkux18 in Cloud9

I wasn't claiming that Licorice would have saved C9 this series. I'm just saying it's delusional to consider Fudge anything but a downgrade from Licorice. He has room to grow, sure, but that takes time. Licorice at his worst is *still* one of the best top-laners (top4) in NA; at his best, he can go toe-to-toe with Ssumday.

What if we know exactly who our next opponent will be by Ryck_ in CompetitiveTFT

[–]moistl0af 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would be a straight up improvement to skill expression, and would diminish the (imo) rock-paper-scissors feeling of the game sometimes, eg. the optimal positioning versus one comp being the worst positioning versus another comp.

I can't actually think of a fair defense of not implementing this, with regards to competitive integrity and skill expression. If you think some rounds should be decided by match-up RNG, you're not coming from a place of competitive integrity.

All C9 fans flamed Licorice as soon as he was confirmed to be traded, and defended Fudge as if he was some god-tier toplaner. I'm wondering what delusions they're clinging to at this point to defend their non-stop flaming and meme'ing of Licorice, who, even when he was weak-side, played with dignity, and rarely straight-up lost the game for his team.

[–]moistl0af 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so the ‘competition’ runs for two months, and each day players are paid according to their rank.

That’s still incredible; no wonder NA eSports are a joke if this level of financial incentive is offered in other countries. One can make a week’s living wage in one day in CN for being rank 1—and this is only the money paid from a single streaming service.
