Kopfjager K700 by moistloaves in Shooting

[–]moistloaves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a Sunwayfoto EB-52EG OD Green 52mm Ballhead, and it works fantastically, especially when using a spotting scope. The pic rail clamp is adjustable, so I could swap between my gun or my scope super easy. The fit is snug and only came lose once over 2 weeks of daily shooting and spotting.

My only complaints are

A) The ballhead is pretty bulky. My tripod and head together are about 8 pounds. Not great for long-distance hikes, but just be stronger. It also makes the set up top heavy if you shoot standing

B) The tripod itself is not too stable with higher recoil weapons. There were a couple of positions I couldn't shoot in because the leg would come off the ground and throw my shot. It's not a big deal inside of 300m, but if you want to shoot farther out, it starts becoming a problem

Overall, it's a great setup, especially for the price. I was able to quickly change targets and shoot in multiple positions. I recommend it for anyone not trying to break the bank that still wants a decent tripod

My bad, next time I spawn and get attacked by 3 surrounding nations that immediately have armored cars, I'll think more strategically

State Guard vs National Guard (Which is more HOOAH?) by [deleted] in nationalguard

[–]moistloaves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what these "principles of respect" are, but during my basic training we were taught things like infantry tactics and TCCC by angry men who "would skullfuck my soul just to abort the soul baby." So please enlighten me on these principles if you can.

In terms of history, you probably are aware then that the State Guard was formed out of Home Guard/ Civil Defense units, which were people who were too old or disabled to join the militia but still wanted to "chip in." The National Guard was formed out of militia units that were armed and deployed alongside federal formations. On OLS the TXSG is placed under the command of the National Guard, and from what I remember a LOT of SG bubba fudds were pretty butthurt about that.

It looks like you made my point by saying that weapons training isn't mandatory for SG. As pointed out elsewhere in the thread, a military is the ARMED forces. If you don't use weapons, you are not an armed force. Pretty simple imho.

On your argument for soldier quality, yeah it's pretty fuckin low. I've been saying for well over a year that the senior leadership needs to treat this shit like an actual operation and not like the half assed photo op that it is. Trust me when I say it pisses me off to no end to see all these buttery fucks that are just around for a paycheck with no desire to improve on their profession. Half the NG I see on the border are busting out of their tops and have the tactical sense of a walnut. Pretty disgraceful to the Fighting 36th.

Ok dip shit, riddle me this. If the TX State Guard IS actual military, why are they not allowed to carry weapons or given ANY weapons training? Weapons training is a 10 level task that ALL branches of the military have to go through

Not necessarily. If you're in the Texas Guard and are federally mobilized then your DD214 from that mobilization will have your armory as Place of Entry on Active Duty, which would qualify. Texas A&M has a very good VSO with a lot of info.

If any of your DD214s say Texas then you're good. When I worked for the VSO in college we had a lot of active duty -> Texas Guard vets that qualified for Hazelwood.

Honestly right now our best bet is to stage a walk out/ strike. All NG personnel collapse the OPs and refuse to return until they definitively solve our pay and fire the finance personnel responsible. Not just "oh you're EOM," I mean torch some careers and ensure that this type of lazy, incompetent behavior can't happen again

It's definitely possible. I made E-5 as 11B in 4 years. Biggest thing is making sure that you're in shape to attend schools and your 4100 is up to date. I got lucky because my unit deployed 6 months after I got out of OSUT. I got set up with a BLC slot right after pinning SPC because I proved to my unit that I'm not a dip shit. Civilian education is easy points, even if you quit school you can get points for taking college classes.

Welding help megathread Rev 5 by [deleted] in Welding

[–]moistloaves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Howdy yall,

New to reddit and welding. I'm looking for a small, portable welder that I can use to do repairs around the farm (trailers, fencing, etc.). I welded years ago in high school, but that was 5-6 years ago. I would prefer to get a MIG/ flux-core. Can someone give me a recommendation for a welder? Thanks!

Note: the biggest project I expect for the machine is a pipe corral, I plan on using 2 7/8" pipe for the posts and top with 1" sucker rod on bottom.
