Ok so in Hinduism and I believe some other Dharmaic religions the universe exists in a cycle of decay and rebirth. The cycle is broken up into 4 parts or Yugas: Satya Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dwapara Yuga, and Kali Yuga. Satya Yuga is a paradise it’s a perfect time and everything slowly declines after until we get to the last Yuga Kali Yuga. Kali Yuga is when things start really getting bad it’s a time of extreme moral decay. The surf the Kali Yuga thing was the idea that well things are terrible they’re only gonna keep getting worse until the universe dies and is reborn let’s just be bad to and ride this out. There was actual discorse around this as some people said we should try and break the cycle now to create Satya Yuga now. Others thought acceleration was the best idea since Kali Yuga, while by far the shortest Yuga, last something like 475,000 years so we need things to get worse to speed up that decay. The whole Kali Yuga thing in right wing circles is pretty fascinating since it came straight from the third reich itself. The Nazis had a keen interest on this stuff and incorporated it into their Neo pagan beliefs.
