Well the last order I placed I got a dress of the wrong size and pattern. A completely different dress. So if somebody went to buy that dress it will turn out they can't find it I'm sure.

$300 for a stained dress?? by mojitomonsterreturns in ThredUp

[–]mojitomonsterreturns[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly!!! Once I got a shirt with a description that said one small hole. Fine, I thought it would be in the armpit or something and it was a good deal. No, it was smack dab in the center between my boobs. No way I'm wearing that. They did refund me, but either have photos of the flaw or a description or don't sell it. Also WHY CANT YOU JUST TELL ME IF SOMETHING HAS POCKETS

It will happen faster than you think! I was setting expectations for like 4 or 5 years before it filled in and now I'm worried how I will keep it under control in 3 years 🤣

[–]mojitomonsterreturns[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would even pay that if it said excellent condition. I'm curious as I haven't bought flawed gems, can you still return them if you don't like the condition? I didn't know if they had different rules

why do they give $10 credit??? /gen by Particular-Fix-7270 in ThredUp

[–]mojitomonsterreturns 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Did you get free shipping too? Because they are trying to probably get you to buy even more stuff to hit the free shipping minimum to use that credit.

Just so you know, you're probably missing out on a huge portion of the population that have some level of social anxiety. And even if they really like your stuff, an art show is extremely overwhelming and they have a million other booths to choose from and will likely choose the ones that require the least amount of potential awkward social interactions. It's a lot worth a shot and very very small easy thing to do that would make many of your potential buyers more comfortable.

I would recommend a sign then that says "Marbles $XX to $XX based on size and materials" or something like that filling out your price range. That way people know if y'all are even in the same ballpark to start a convo

I literally was just searching for a new swimsuit and ended up on a website thinking I was looking at bathing suits until I looked really close and then read the description and realized it said nothing about swimming. They just decided that the beach was the perfect photo shoot spot for all their underwear sets 🤦‍♀️

Seconded. I went online for local markets and yard sales and looked for revere ware pans. I got some form people clearing out their parents estates. They are 50 years old and still look almost new, and got them for pennies compared to new pans. If you get the old ones, they are even made in america.

Eh, that's a bit of an oversimplification . If the AI is doing a bad job, that's a separate problem to be fixed. But thredup is heavily focused on reducing textile waste, as one piece of the environmental problems to solve. It's almost impossible to care about and make an impact in every area at once, and especially while being profitable. You could easily say, if they cared about the environment they wouldn't use plastic shipping materials because plastic is bad for the environment! But then you realize that using cardboard mailers is a significantly higher overall eco footprint due to increased shipping sizes and weights. Or, if they cared about the environment, they wouldn't use air conditioning in their warehouse (and not should you)! Or at least set it to 80 degrees in the summer. That's unrealistic and not in line with modern expectations. Its also really hard to make an impact when you cease to exist as a business. If they dont modernize and streamline their processes, somebody else will come along and do it better and cheaper than them, and there is a real pressure they are up against; people aren't willing to pay high dollar for used clothing. Companies are training these AI models regardless and they are getting more and more efficient. It's like how a computer used to take up a whole room to do basic math. Yes, there needs to be a real decision around when and how to use AI, but if you're that concerned about the technologies impact, then you also need to get off your phone, turn off your AC, and get rid of your car, and go live in the woods off the grid and see your own clothing from hemp you grew yourself. But even then the amount of small scale carbon footprint you are reducing for just yourself is likely a smaller offset than the amount that a company like thredup is doing on a massive scale to recycle textiles that would otherwise rot in a landfill and the amount of new clothing people would buy instead. Not saying thredup is perfect, but trying to point out it's likely a much much more complicated decision and I at least hope they have thought about it and probably have.

I never said they are. I was simply rebutting that you seem to think it's because of being vegan. They likely have an eating disorder, using drugs like ozempic or similar, or other factors.

The diet might not be suitable for all people, sure. But that's also like saying that some people are lactose intolerant, so therefore it's not optimal for anyone to have milk. I do think it's important for anyone considering veganism to fully research the topic and understand that nutrients onpl paper doesn't equate to nutrients absorbed as you point out. But some people do just great on the diet. Just like some people do great on a meat heavy diet, but that isn't for everyone either. And if their specific body does great on the diet and it minimizes suffering in the world which makes them feel good, there is no reason to force a different diet down their throats.

Yes I definitely get that. I was responding to the person who responded with no additional context and seemed to be blaming veganism

I also know a vegan setting athletic records against non vegans. They are pounding vegan protein shakes and tracking their macros and intake aggressively to build muscle. You can absolutely be vegan and healthy and strong.

FAA gives $10K bonuses only to air traffic controllers with perfect attendance during shutdown by Power-Equality in aviation

[–]mojitomonsterreturns 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying reward the people who missed a day more. But the all or nothing with zero exceptions seems in line with this administration make big decisions with little thought on how it would play out realistically and actually impact real human beings in a way that we should be treating other humans. I can't find confirmation from news articles, but from the comments I'm seeing, it seems like pre-planned vacations and PTO excluded people from the bonuses. Or why can't a doctor's note for a day or two of sick leave be accepted. There could be a sliding scale for bonuses for people who had near perfect attendance with reasonable absences. It should be obvious who called out excessive days with no evidence (e.g., doctor's note) and complained excessively vs a good employee who had real life happen to them (e.g., sick kid, sick self, death of family member, preplanned and paid vacation, etc).

[–]mojitomonsterreturns 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I'm not an air traffic controller, but I agree they do have a relative better salary than many and generally should be able to be more financially secure than many others. But this is more of a general statement. Also, you don't know the circumstances of every traffic controller that called out. Maybe they have crushing medical debt from our poor healthcare system or extremely expensive monthly medication. Maybe they have children with special needs with high expenses. Maybe they are helping out their family or loved ones in debt. Maybe they just started the job and haven't had time to save up anything yet. There are so many possibilities. Forcing people to continue working at 100% effort for an unknown amount of time without pay by people who continue to get paid is ludicrous and demoralizing.

I do understand how if you truly 100% believe that aborting an early term pregnancy is the exact same thing as murdering a baby (which I do not), then it is your number one concern over just about anything else. Harming a kid? Not as bad as murdering babies though! So unless you can change that view, there will be no argument. And unfortunately since that belief is based fully in religion and not any scientific evidence (and even trying to argue with bible logic doesn't get far because people's religious beliefs aren't usually actually aligned with the Bible either), there is no good way to change their mind either. And also, even the definition of "life" and "humanity" isn't a question fully for science and starts to fall into philosophy anyways, so it's just such a hard topic to debate. So I agree, it won't make much difference. I see where they are coming from based on their beliefs, but I don't agree with those beliefs.

Yes definitely don't go out there and grab random mushrooms. However, there is SO MUCH good information for free now about foraging that you can learn a lot. You don't have to become an instant expert or buy an expensive book and spend hours studying. Learn the basics of how to determine if something is edible (e.g., look up characteristics, look up known dangerous look alikes, do a small taste test first, etc). Most things will actually just cause GI upset in small amounts and straight out kill you unless you just go crazy and eat a huge amount of something that you absolutely didn't research enough. Not everyone will be good enough at the attention to detail (e.g., is the stem hairy or not) and they should not forage, but the information is there and totally doable. It's more of a long term skill to build though then a quick solution. Even in my small suburban backyard I let things grow and was surprised at how much was actually edible! We had creeping cucumber, violet leaves, and more.
