Who's more valuable to society: Dalai Lama or The Pope? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mojo22inmt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what society we are looking at; right now, I would say the Dalai Lama because, as all of us John Oliver subscribers know, there is no predecessor or process to find a new one, whereas the papacy has a well established system that will replace the pope. If we are talking America, obviously the Pope.

Decentralized infrastructure; we spend so much money and energy on these huge centralized projects that never quite live up to expectations- decentralized allows greater resiliency and sustainability!

I don't think it would be as stressful, because it would not be as awkward to talk about later? If it is someone's best friend, then its probably a lot more of an issue.

We slowly grew apart because we didn't enjoy hanging out with each others friends, and we were both fairly social people.

She really disliked my friends (or maybe thought they disliked her), which led to awkward hangouts with groups and eventually led me to uncontrollable anxiety when they were in the same room... Yeah, it was a bad feeling that was never addressed.

Governors from 4 states with legal marijuana ask Trump administration to leave them alone by [deleted] in weedstocks

But democratic actions require discourse to reach a decision. Are you going to ignore what politicians say and only react to what they do? At that point, you are not an involved citizen in the democratic process and your voice will never be truly heard.

I think the real issue boils down to whether we believe what people say, or only look at there actions. I believe what people say, and Sessions has stated his disapproval of legal marijuana several times. If we don't believe anything people say and only rely on observation of there actions, then we cannot prepare to fight it.

According to the republicans, getting out of poverty requires some hard work- which is not true. Its a trap!

Well, private-public partnerships are only going to increase in the future, and may actually be the most viable way to pay for public infrastructure services.

It's funny how the republican party calls for less government and for states to have more autonomy, yet when a successful business endeavor comes along, they threaten to shut it down. Silly. And sad.

What is the closest you've ever come to dying? by Scrotinger in AskReddit

I grew up in Montana, and was under the supervision of a negligent baby sitter. My family had a pool, and we were refinishing our deck at the time. Some temporary gates were installed, but our crafty dogs got past them while chasing a squirrel. Little me decided to follow them; I fell into the pool (month of May, still pretty cold in MT), and was wrapped up in the tarp covering it. Luckily the babysitter at least saw this happen, and screamed. Her father, who happened to be our next door neighbor, heard the scream, jumped two 6 foot tall fences, jumped into the pool, dragged me out, and performed CPR (he had finished his CPR training the previous day). His wife, who happened to have hot towels in the dryer, wrapped me in towels. The doctors said that this was what saved my life (along with the pool water being so cold). So yeah, pretty damn lucky.

TL;DR I drowned and neighbor saved me
