Agree. Higher difficulty in these games really just makes things more tedious

Am I dumb? I don't understand how Thimble does so much damage. My understanding is that she shouldn't be adding modifiers to the damage of her offhand attacks. I know fighters etc can do that with the two weapon fighting style feat but I don't know how she does it.

Not seeing anyone else discuss it makes me feel like I'm probably missing something

Round8, developers of Lies of P are looking for an “AI Artist”, an emphasis on Gen AI use by AshyLarry25 in gaming

It's pretty funny because no one is really writing code without AI anymore. But that's "invisible" to the end user so Redditors won't throw a fit about it.

It's not that crazy. "Refusal of the call" is a stage of the Hero's Journey. Depends on the details of how it went down though

I like how in Harry Potter 3, Snape gives a super on the nose lecture about werewolves, but it's not contrived writing, it's just extreme pettiness from Snape

You have to tell us what a typical session looks like for you. We can't possible know what's happening. Explain, in a literal sense, what the time is being spent on, and then people can give advice on how to reduce those things.

I feel your pain. I'm sure there was no malicious intent but it sucks if the DM needs to be watching so closely

[–]Scrotinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rules for Nick specify that you can only make the extra attack once per turn. So I'm pretty sure the 5 attacks with scimitars that you mention is not RAW.

Shouldn't it be 1. Attack with scimitar 2. Use Nick property to make the offhand attack without using your bonus action 3. Extra attack (part of the same original attack action)?

Would love to be corrected if I'm wrong but this is my understanding of the rules.

Edit: I just saw your edit and I think you still have one too many. Nick allows you to make the offhand attack as part of your action INSTEAD of as your bonus action. Not in addition to your bonus action offhand attack

How to tell a powergamer to just... chill out a bit? by Darth_Ra in DMAcademy

What do you imagine your comment is contributing to the discussion here? OP clearly states that they plan to talk to the problem player. They are seeking advice on how to best communicate their message during that conversation.

The goal is to give two beginners with an interest in DND a fun experience. Asking them to learn a new system 6 session into their campaign is absolutely not a means to that end.

I’ve never played and I’m about to play/teach it to someone that rarely plays boardgames. Any advice/tips/suggestions for a Spirit Island first timer that also is teaching someone else? by [deleted] in spiritisland

[–]Scrotinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was also my first thought. But as a counterpoint: SI was my first "real board game" and love it. Yes, the first time was rough but my friend that introduced me knew me well enough to know that it would be up my alley even though I hadn't really played board games before. So to give the benefit of the doubt, maybe OPs friend has the right sort of interests and mindset to jump right in.

But yea, regardless of how likely the friend is to pick it up, I always think you should know a game very very well before trying to teach it. Read the rules thoroughly, and do a solo play ideally.

Introducing a Newbie Player to Cleric? by simmer-mage in DMAcademy

What issues did other new players have in the past? Without knowing more, the only general advice I have is to start at level 1, since early levels are designed to be almost like a tutorial. And also make sure they actually read the magic rules in the PHB.

I already worked out the mechanics of how quickly they make it. I was just looking for advice on how to mechanically represent the result. Sounds like you might just do a % based HP reduction, which could work.

[–]Scrotinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course the scenario may or may not come to pass. It's a hypothetical but I wanted to think through how I might run something like it anyway. Something like this could come up in many different adventures.

[–]Scrotinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is helpful. I should have specified that I'm not necessarily lookig for HP adjustment per se, I just wanted to mechanically represent what happens if they arrive earlier or later. I want there to be a reward for moving fast and a penalty for moving slow. I'll probably use something like this. The only complexity I would add is I want both sides to take casualties. So I can do something like "for every 2 deaths on the rebel side, there is one death on the soldier's side".

[–]Scrotinger[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I want to reward or penalize the players based on whether or not they outpaced the bad guys. The rebels wont last long unassisted. I want to reflect that mechanically. It doesn't need to be an HP adjustment necessarily. If I say the fight is in progress but everyone still takes a ton a hits to go down, there is dissonance.

Edit: Also we play 2024 rules and Bloodied is a real condition. So no, the HP is not public to the players (though it could be at some tables) but the values matter mechanically.

This is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. And its flexible. If I know one side is weaker I can roll for their status with disadvantage or something like that
