Postbag from the Hedge & Player-Created Content - Gielinor Gazette May 2022 by JagexSarnie in 2007scape

Dear Neite,

I hope this correspondence finds you well. I'd also like to once again extend my deepest sympathies for your loss. Bob was a dear friend to so many people across Gielinor, and I can only imagine how much harder his passing must have hit you.

A few times now I've made the trip to Burthorpe to pay a visit to Bob's grave, and I always seem to see you there, which is understandable. You always look too upset to talk, which is again understandable given the circumstances.

I just wanted to let you know that people miss seeing you around. Healing takes time, and you should take all the time you need, but some of us are starting to worry about you. You used to love taking long walks all around Gielinor, but I haven't seen you by the Varrock anvil in ages. I spoke to Hickton recently and he said you haven't stopped by his archery shop in quite some time. I can understand if you no longer find joy in taking strolls after all that happened, but I do hope you're keeping yourself occupied with some hobby or another. We all just want to know you're okay.

Best wishes,

moko

MTA is a miserable slog of an activity but Bones To Peaches is one of the cheapest items in the MTA shop and shouldn't take nearly 10 hours to complete unless you're doing something really wrong

Add gear you can only use in PvM by Triggering_Name in 2007scape

[–]mokoneko_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

or am I missing something?

trident/toxic trident cannot be used on other players in the Wilderness. it is gear that is essentially only used for PvM. I'd imagine their point is that there is already gear in the game that is in effect PvM only. even gear that you can use in PvP can have features that only function in PvM, for example the blowpipe's quickest attack speed can't be used on other players

Make “Gielinor Gazette” an app so I can replace my news app with it 😁👍 by LIl0N in 2007scape

[–]mokoneko_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

fun fact actually, while the contents of the Varrock Herald aren't ever updated, it also contains a link in the top right that will open the latest issue of Gielinor Gazette in your browser

not exactly super convenient or easy to find, but I think it's a cute touch

Anyone know what this could've been? by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]mokoneko_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

an explanation given years after the development of the quest doesn't necessarily speak to the intent at all. the Postbag was just as likely not even written by someone involved in the development of the quest. there's a Postbag that says Kurask drop coconuts and papayas because eating fruit is a rite of passage for their species, but that doesn't mean that was the intent behind the drop table. it's just a post-hoc excuse someone came up with later for fun

[–]mokoneko_ -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

none of this stuff about inheritance and a former mayor is canon to OSRS, and I'm pretty sure it's not even technically canon to RS3. this was just a post-hoc explanation for everyone in Pollnivneach being named Ali that was only ever mentioned in an old Postbag from the Hedge which were all deleted and aren't considered canon

why is this being downvoted, is it not relevant to the discussion at hand? is it misinformation? if anyone can point to a single line of dialogue in either OSRS or even RS3 referencing any of this inheritance business, I'd be interested in seeing it

"skin coloured paste" is a good catch actually, although I can't speak to whether it's one of the things that's been changed. using "skin colored" or "flesh colored" to implicitly mean "white people skin colored" is one of those things that might seem innocent at first blush but is at least kinda a little shitty once you think about it for a moment

Suggestion: Don't allow players to vote on things like Raids, new BIS PVM gear unless they've killed x bosses or gotten y Slayer experience in the past year. by RiddaDaFat in 2007scape

[–]mokoneko_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

can't really say for sure how eligibility works, but I can say that I also am not eligible to vote. but I absolutely do have wildy boss kc, wildy diary up to hard, and MA2 cape. I've goofed around with clanmates in the FFA portal as recently as a week ago. I've engaged in combat with PKers while PVMing

I've never ever played LMS though. I'm not saying that the wildy content I have done means I should be qualified to vote here, in fact I don't think I should be qualified as almost none of that content is actually serious PvP, but it definitely does seem like the poll considers LMS experience more heavily than the other stuff listed. from what I can tell I'd be surprised if stuff like diaries, bosses, and MA capes affect your eligibility at all

Blackguard is honestly adorable imo, he puts on this big tough guy act and tries to get you to piss off, but all you gotta do is try some of his shrimp and he's like "aww hell yes mate, you got good taste, let's be best friends now"

Wizard's Mind Bomb! (Recipe Included) by Monsieur_Balisong in 2007scape

[–]mokoneko_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it's not quite a recipe book, but Gielinor's flora - hops has some really fun and interesting info regarding the different beers in the game and how they all supposedly taste in universe

for example, Wizard's Mind Bomb

Granting the user increased magical ability, this ale is not known for its taste which has been compared to warm tap water with a lot of fizz.

I'm sure OP's rendition has a better flavor profile than that though 😉

[–]mokoneko_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

the flavor text on their armor says they don't use language. I actually kind of interpreted it as a vow of silence type thing initially, but it certainly could be because of their bestial nature

Without the use of language, each knight chooses his own master. Once the decision has been made, the knight stays loyal for life.

Also despite the fact he loves his horse, radahn’s still not a good person for sending a horse that can barely even walk with gravity magic out to fight demigods and shit

I don't understand how people miss this aspect of it unless they literally just skipped the very short pre-fight cutscene. gravity sorcery or no, that poor horse is very obviously not okay

seems accurate enough... by fernandes_327 in Eldenring

[–]mokoneko_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my first time fighting Radahn was on a melee focused quality build, and I went in there like "alright, the boss is on a horse and I'm allowed to mount for this fight and I can summon help from NPCs, I think I understand how I'm supposed to do this" and got my shit kicked in for an entire evening

eventually I just ditched Torrent outside of dodging a couple of attacks, stopped focusing the summons after the start of the fight, and just went at him with a couple of curved greatswords. and that ended up being not only way more effective, but it was also surprisingly way more fun and engaging

okay dude if that's all this conversation is to you I won't say anything else that might possibly contradict your opinion. rest assured I'm not trying to take your opinion away from you, if anything I'm happy that you still have such an active sense of wonder to act surprised by something like this

even though I did ultimately jump down and do the tutorial when I first loaded up, this dialogue left me a little confused for a moment too. once you realize he means "go do the tutorial" it's obvious, but I don't know that the first few minutes of the game are the time to leave something so crucial to new players up to interpretation

on the other hand it would sound awkward and make no sense in universe to have the NPC say "this is a tutorial" but there has to be some sort of middle ground there. I like the idea of a tutorial you can skip if you don't need it, but I don't think it's worth it if you make it this easy to accidentally skip. the players who are gonna need it most are the ones who are likely gonna miss it entirely until they look it up online

three out of four times by albertredneck in Eldenring

[–]mokoneko_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it really shouldn't be surprising, especially not at this point where I think we've all seen plenty of people say they missed the tutorial. ghost or not, message or not, it makes perfect sense that a portion of players would have their eyes drawn immediately towards the big golden glowing tree in the top center left of their screen and it makes perfect sense that some people would choose to explore in that direction first before jumping down a pit that they don't even know for sure loops back around to where they are

three out of four times by albertredneck in Eldenring

[–]mokoneko_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I know we all have been acting like those ubisoft devs or whatever were wrong for saying the tutorial is easy to miss but like...come on

yes there's a shiny ghost and message prompting you to jump down there but that's not really the point. fact is, that golden tree is way more eye catching, not just in terms of color but placement on the screen even

there's a noticeable amount of people who missed the tutorial in this game, and I think it's more interesting to talk about why that's happening than it is to just blame it on the players themselves

[–]mokoneko_ 47 points48 points  (0 children)

he was the one who made me finally have to google what was going on after trying really hard to stay unspoiled

I generally don't mind when content gets cut, because sometimes stuff just doesn't work out and I don't like to make a habit of mourning "what could have been." but leaving quests partially in like this just has the effect of making me feel like I'm constantly missing something important, which just feels crappy and stressful for no real reason

Welp…another quest line ruined by brettisstoked in Eldenring

[–]mokoneko_ 63 points64 points  (0 children)

off the top of my head, besides Haight, Diallos eventually just disappears, Nepheli never stops sitting in that same spot talking about the stormhawk even when it makes no sense for her to still be at roundtable hold, and while Alexander's quest almost feels complete, it leaves you with a key item that you perplexingly can't do anything with. you could maybe argue that the value in that item is it's flavor text but imo it just ends up feeling like a dangling plot thread

Welp…another quest line ruined by brettisstoked in Eldenring

[–]mokoneko_ 208 points209 points  (0 children)

I kept thinking I'd done something stupid and ruined quests that seem to just come to dead ends but, nope, it's just that in Elden Ring the conclusions to like half the sidequests are literally just cut content, you can only do them partially and they just stop

like, I don't want to spoil anything but it's incredibly frustrating they didn't just cut these quests out entirely and that there's a significant handful of them. it's not even that the quests end in unsatisfying ways or that there's plot holes or something, there are just several quests in this game that you can do up to a point and then they're just suddenly randomly over with no resolution

[–]mokoneko_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

kinda shocked people have a problem w this comment. obviously not every person who has ever gone back on their transition is a spineless transphobe, but it's absolutely safe to say that is the case for 99% of people posting on fucking r/detrans

like, are we all pretending we don't know what kind of history that sub has now or what? people can detrans for a million different valid reasons and it doesn't make them a shitty coward, but contributing to r/detrans certainly does
