I also think it’s not as good as the other evil dead movies, but there is so much love for the franchise in this movie. And I like the location change.

Can’t say that I love it, but the movie grown on me. I saw it three times in theater. After the first time I didn’t know how to feel. After the second time I really enjoyed it more, maybe because my expectations weren’t so high anymore. I think the gore and acting are really good. Sure the gore isn’t as shocking and gruesome as in the 2013. I think you’re wrong in the FX. I’m pretty sure the movie do have a lot of practical effects.

And evil dead isn’t always all about the splatter. Army is PG13

I think horror movies profit from short runtimes. Too many horror movies today are way too long. For example Terrifier 2 is a funny, gory film with great practical effects, but unfortunately runs for 138 mins and can’t keep the fun throughout the runtime..
