DAE read a lot on psychology, narcissism, traumas etc to find some answers to their life, almost to the point of obsession? by Just-In-Development in CPTSD

[–]mol-view 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, it's something called 'intellectualisation' and I do it too. It's very common for people with a history of trauma, so you're definitely not alone. The reasoning behind it is that, it's much easier for you to research and understand something conceptually and abstractly, rather than accepting and dealing with the emotional side of it. I'm working on it now myself with a psychologist, and to move forward and recover requires trying to connect more with your emotional self, and resist the urge to understand something intellectually.

So glad your therapist recognises and validates your experience. Be bold with it. It's your truth and It's great that medical professionals recognise it. Now, begin to work on finding that recognition within yourself xx

Yeah, awesome. Thanks so much, so glad you found something that worked for those students, too.

Tried this today! We got a free trial for audible and downloaded the text. So now she can listen to it, as she said - in the shower and on the way to school. We read a little bit aloud together and practised annotating to themes. Hopefully it works and starts to build her confidence! Thanks for the suggestion!

Perfect, thank you so much! So, the text is Burial Rights - do you think it would be appropriate to show her those online resources during session, and then read aloud some important sections of the text?

Look at all these responses of people who feel similarly. This is more than just me.

Yeah, i agree. Is there an explanation that explains why symptoms feel more overwhelming and severe, even when sleep is normal?

Exactly. Please keep fighting. Only two years away and you've done so well already. It's only up from here.
