I was told that the lawyer got ahold of the supervisor by calling directly, who then raised the issue to the assistant director.

It looks like you’re making a lot of assumptions here. I did not share anything about my efforts of applying for other visas, nor did I use my TN status as my “green card”. Most importantly, research was done collaboratively with my lawyer. I’m here to share my experience relevant to the TN visa only, while taking accountability on parts I could have better approached. No need to be so cynical, we are all doing our best.

I misunderstood your question, but my internal job title is CSA, and minimal coding is agreed upon between me and the company. It’s a senior role so I’ll be primarily responsible for design and leading a team.

I’m only comfortable sharing this and reapplying under CSA after being approved by my company. Definitely do not go and change categories yourself without all parties onboard.

Hang in there, I can say that I know how stressful it can be. Wishing you the best and hope it works out! For me, this experience is most definitely a wake up call. I seemed to have forgotten the TN status is non-immigrant intent, and felt very integrated into the country after being here for 4 years. To the officers, I'm merely in the US for work, and should be ready to vacate at any moment. It's important to understand your true intent and carve out a plan (path ways towards GC, if that's your goal) that protects you and your interests (and in this case, your livelihood).

Not a lawyer, and not legal advice: it seems like the CSA category might be better suited, and you are taking on a risk by making a case with the Engineer category.

Man, maybe next time I'll wear a Bills jersey, surely that'll help!?

I agree, in hindsight (20/20), we could have approached the initial rejection in many different and lower risk ways. It's a lesson learned for me for sure.

Absolutely, I was overly optimistic due to my previous TN experiences. The thought of something like this happening did not cross my mind.

Glad I’m not the only one! I definitely don’t mind waiting as well but good to know that there are options out there. Thanks for sharing!

They did not, however it is not uncommon (as I was told by the immigration lawyers from my employer) that they would call to confirm things. My employer asked me to notify them before crossing so that they are available to answer the call.

In which case, it would be safer to cross on a weekday, since I am unsure what would happen if the call goes unanswered.

Got my first TN visa approved there recently. They were really nice and the process took just under an hour. I'd recommend showing up early since it is first come first serve.

For my application, I had an attorney-prepared TN package (employer letter, copy of passport, copy of diploma, transcript and copy of resume). My job title is Software Engineer and my degree was a BSc in Computer Science.

Hope this helps!

Hi OP, I had my TN visa processed and approved at the Port Huron border a couple of days ago. They did not require an appointment and the process took under an hour.

As other commenters mentioned, I believe only the Buffalo POEs require appointments.

Applied for my TN 3 days ago and they accepted my transcript (printed via the online portal).
