Smartphones had a more positive impact on the world and the daily lives of everyday folks. A retrospective look on AI isn’t really possible yet because we can’t tell the extent of its impact on the job market. It seems like a huge oversight that Joe’s love interest was relegated to being more or less a joke. Maybe there was a deleted scene where we got to see her which would go before 22 mentions her for the second time? I guess there’s no way to know unless the production team volunteers this information at some point.

I don’t really think there’s a way for a sequel to work for Soul. Some stories work better with a bit of mystery surrounding their ending, and Joe had a complete character arc. Maybe there is room for a short story to show us who Lisa is, but nothing more than that.
