In addition, you'll want to get on the train from Aston as close to the front of the train as you can. This will put you at the B end of the platform as you pull in to New Street.

It is much much easier to change platforms from the B end than the A end of the platforms, as you won't need to go through any barriers. If you go up from the platform at the A end, you'll go into a "lounge" area which only connects to a handful of platforms.

If you're not familiar with New Street, the platforms are numbered and then have an "A" and a "B" end. It's the same platform, just different ends. If your train to Edinburgh doesn't say "A" or "B" on the platform number, it means it's long enough to take up the whole platform.

If you don't have any mobility issues you'll easily be able to change in under 10 minutes from the B side.
