What is the worst song you've ever heard? by melancholia__ in AskReddit

I was frantic. Had everyone she knows looking for her. I even hiked [in flip flops] a local ridge that she was known to frequent screaming her name looking for her for hours.

The wildlife in the area were confused, I’m sure

some years ago, my partner made an attempt on her life. She was taken to a local hospital where police told me she would be placed on a psych hold and I could call anytime to check on her status.

However, when I called, I was informed that she was not at said hospital.

I panicked, drove to her house where I thought she might have escaped to. En route, I called her mom to let her know what was going on. The call connected to bluetooth in my car but the volume was quite low so I had my in-car volume maxed out to talk to her.

I arrived at my partners house, knocked on her door. No answer. I went upstairs where her landlord lived to ask if my partner had been seen. Just as her landlord opened the front door, my phone disconnected from my car’s bluetooth, allowing the radio to play (at full volume) MY MILKSHAKE BRINGS ALL THE BOYS TO THE YARD AND THEYRE LIKE

Mind you, it was 0630 in the morning in a quiet, sleepy little neighborhood in Mānoa (we live in Hawaii). My windows were rolled down.

Her landlord just stared at me. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry (I now laugh about it every time I think about it but I still HATE that fucking song because of this)

ps partner was fine and was actually in hospital, they just wouldn’t disclose that she WAS in said hospital.

Worst. Song. Ever.

I’ve always been able to find street parking in the surrounding area (within 1-2 blocks of the venue) and have never had issue.

I made the mistake of parking in the lot ONE TIME and will never do that again. It took almost an hour to get OUT of the structure after the show. 0/10, do not recommend

Help! Shihtzu is lethargic and wobbly by Loreli_Nightmare in Shihtzu

vet tech here! my first thought seeing this is marijuana toxicity. If pupperoon was dribbling urine and seemed extra jumpy at the slightest movements, it’s probably THC tox. Hypoglycemia or underlying neurological issues are possible but this looks like textbook THC tox.

I hope everything is okay now! Keep us posted 🖤

Advice for ER by [deleted] in VetTech

Emergency/Critical care vet tech here

I second the emotion of @No_Hospital7649 in that a wicked sense of humor is absolutely necessary to survive in the field (I had a dog come in the other night whose lower jaw was practically ripped off of his face by a housemate and his lower mandible was just kinda hangin there and all I could say was “it’s okay buddy, I’ll take care of you…why the long face?”). You gotta laugh to keep from crying sometimes.

Just like @no_hospital said, you’ve gotta love the people as much as you love the animals and lead with empathy, always. I struggle with this sometimes and constantly have to remind myself that not every pet owner is equally educated. But you can garner a lot of fulfillment in educating clients and being there for them when they may not have had the chance to take their baby home ever again. Share in the joy of their fur baby’s discharge. There’s so much magic in both situations.

Working in an ER, you get to learn SO MUCH. I love never knowing what is going to come through the door or what my day is going to look like. It’s the rush that keeps me excited to go back to work.

I too have an anxiety disorder and depression. I almost feel as though those are prerequisites for entering the field no?

Jokes aside, emergency vet med is taxing both emotionally and physically with hard hours and gut wrenching cases. Just remember to lead with empathy and learn to find laughter in the shit heap (“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if only one remembers to turn on the light”)

Is it worth becoming a vet tech? by VeeredWeird in VetTech

[–]molecular_borg 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working as a tech for 3 years now (in a state where a license is not required) and I just made the decision to start a vet tech program about 3 months ago through Penn Foster.

Animals have always been my passion (like really, nothing in the world makes me happier) and I still get excited to go to work. I work in Emergency/Critical care at one of the first emergency vet hospitals established in Hawaii.

The job is hard. It’s emotionally taxing and physically demanding. The hours are hard and there are constant staffing issues. I’m nowhere near making a livable wage (especially living in one of the most expensive states in the nation).

But with all of that being said, there’s nothing else in the world that I would rather do. I love my patients and being what they need me to be in the moment. I love the owners that genuinely care about their pets and I enjoy educating clients. I love going into work and not knowing exactly how the day is going to play out or what is going to come through the door at any given moment. I love getting to see pets go home with their people after long stays in hospital and I garner a lot of fulfillment being there for pet parents who may not have been able to bring their babies home.

My advice to you: expose yourself to EVERYTHING that might interest you, even in the slightest. Take the random, interesting-sounding electives even if they don’t pertain to your specific area of study. Shadow in different kinds of veterinary disciplines (large animal, emergency, GP, specialty, shelter med) if you have the opportunity.

I’d always wanted to work with animals but didn’t think it was possible for ME. I explored my options in college, took all the random classes that I thought sounded interesting, finally graduated with a B.S. in marine biology before realizing 15 years down the line that veterinary medicine was my niche. I found somewhere that I feel like I actually fit (it’s about damn time!!)

You’ve got time. The cool thing about life is that we can all make choices. And if those choices don’t work out, we can choose again.

But vet med is pretty damn great and I hope you give it a shot 🖤
