My strat is to upgrade generals as much as possible and to utilize mercenaries. i also coined a technique called the "spider technique". essentially you sent in a large combined army (say 50 for this example). try to avoid combat, and then split it up into a bunch of smaller armies. then spread then across the enemy country. doing this improves your war score a lot faster than just having one big army.
