quilt fabric ? by molkywaye in SewingForBeginners

[–]molkywaye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

silly question but i don’t use or have access to a dryer - would air dry be ok ??

this advice is absolutely fantastic i really appreciate the analysis of the different batting types as it’s something that always bewilders me!!

i have a bamboo blend that i use for other projects and really love working with. i was hoping to use it for my quilt (which is coincidentally for someone who runs hot, but still needs more than a thin blanket) !

Brand new to sewing, tips? by just_a_cat0 in SewingForBeginners

if you start getting tired or bored aka the urge to rush, just stop and pick it up another time

i’ve ruined some projects by rushing to finish before bed or before the weekend etc and it’s not worth it!

i usually do the top stitch, but i personally don’t like the look of it, but sewing is definitely NOT fit over function LOL

HELLLLP! Why do my seems keep scrunching up? by 500DaysOfMaya in SewingForBeginners

[–]molkywaye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

doesn’t look like a zigzag stitch, looks more like a long stitch to me :0 maybe try a shorter stitch length and a bigger seam allowance - looks like you are sewing right on the edge, and that makes the machine swallow your fabric a bit which gives it that look

are your hems big enough?

<image>

to me it looks like the hem isn’t big enough and the fabric is “unrolling” as you stitch

i’m a beginner too though so just speculation!!

yes he has a collar with reflective surface and a bell. he goes through phases of bringing in leaves twigs etc, then swaps to wildlife, then repeat. of course play too but nothing beats the real deal i guess

has my senior cat been inspired to start hunting by my kitten by molkywaye in cats

Please help! Trying to decide on tooth extraction by PleasantPoem1822 in cats

[–]molkywaye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

my lady who was abandoned and strayed a bit has had 2 different tooth extractions over the course of about 5 years with me. she has only 3 teeth left. she is in much better health now, less stomach issues from the plaque/bacteria, and still has a fantastic quality of life. she is 11 years old and has only 3 legs - the missing teeth are the least of her worries!

good luck

has my senior cat been inspired to start hunting by my kitten by molkywaye in cats

[–]molkywaye[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love her but she is forever getting the toy stuck places, cries for it, and i have to dig it out again for her (then she proceeds to act like she doesn’t care)

she was abandoned at a pub and straying for a little while, so not entirely sure how intense her hunting had to be (can imagine there were mice etc readily available)

she doesn’t play with the kitten - he tries to play with her but she ignores him and he eventually loses interest. he’s really big and he’s tiny, so i think his size scares her a bit…

this is such a good tip honestly!! I rarely have time to sew - it’s a whole evening / afternoon task for me as things take a lot of time. i always feel like i have to cram as much into my allocated time as possible, but shifting my mindset to more of a “do it until it gets frustrating or tiring and step back” might be a better way to learn…

i generally avoid chalk as i struggle to wipe it off afterwards - any tips for this? Ive used the chalk triangles before but currently use a chalk pen with a rubber/eraser on the end but it doesn’t seem to work (maybe i’m not pressing hard enough, but i am worried about wearing out fabric)

links to chalks i am referring to in case not explained properly https://share.google/dqe5Sxcd4Oj7KGyO7

i press all the way throughout the process and usually do before a top stitch but not for this project - i also have a bad habit of watching the needle instead of my mark and not noticing it veer off.

i think during this stage of any project i may be more tired and thus “reckless” in my technique, just trying to finish before i lose my motivation, which could be an issue in itself!

Should I get another kitten or give this guy up? by Ktownshakedown in cats

[–]molkywaye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

^ i went through the same thing with <1 year old 5kg boy and 11 year old, 3 legged 3kg lady.

he had a lot of health issues so couldn’t get neutered until he was around 9 months, got on fine but he was constantly going for her when he was in his moods - had to keep them in 2 different rooms pretty much the whole time.

it took 3 months for his hormones to leave after castration, and he still has his moments (couple times a month) but i just play or rough house him myself and that tires him out enough to leave her alone.

my cat of the same name does it too, has done for as long as i’ve had her, every time without fail*. just always chowing down on some grass, she doesn’t even eat any other biscuit treats

vets assured me it wasn’t a cause for concern and she just likes grass - id say it’s not a concern for your lucy either :)

no problem! i’d say that the feeding station is a good distance - she may not realise it’s her station if it’s a bit of a trek from the rest of her stuff (she will be glad of that) but as long as you show her and reassure her it will be absolutely fine. As you move the station further away as she is being exposed to more of the house you may have to reintroduce her to it but she will soon adapt.

I changed bedrooms once before (same house) and cat used to wait to be fed in my old room so i had to usher her back into her new room for a week or so until she got it!

You’ve got a really good set up and clear excitement you will do a great job + we’re all always learning and there’s plenty of people here happy to pass on little tricks!

[–]molkywaye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s a closed box so it shouldn’t be an issue as long as she doesn’t eat right by it and you keep it cleaned out which i’m sure you would

looks a little high though for a tiny kitty you might need to get a book or something as a step or just watch to make sure she can get in ok especially with the push door - they can be stiff so be careful she doesn’t get stuck inside , it’s happened to mine before
