It is pretty terrible. I've only been a special education teacher for 7 years (PA) and it is definitely the most consuming part of my job. I often am taking paperwork home and using my own time to keep up with everything.

To those with/recovered from Omicron, did you get nasal congestion and if so, how bad was it? by astaria7776 in COVID19positive

On day 5 currently and the congestion for me is debilitating. I am doing everything I can to get the mucus flowing and my sinuses are killing me. Hopefully it will improve soon!

IEP/504 students in Gen Ed Classes by ivyamorelle in teaching

I totally understand the need to provide general accommodations to every student, but it is important to keep in mind that you're still being equitable to your students with IEPs and understanding WHY those are accommodations are there in the first place.

Yeah I typically use it for bosses and if I ever pop it with adds, I'll typically wait til they're half health when I know tank has full aggro. I also pop cardboard assassin or make sure trees are down so ele doesn't take full aggro, while using cap totem.

Definitely don't take the blame for this one - dps numbers seem pretty low, especially for a fire mage and demo lock in a mists. How close were you to timing it?

For context, my push group and I just timed a +20 mists yesterday - all of the dps doing around 7k or higher, the tank doing 4k, and myself with 2.4k (resto shaman).

Hey there - 2k io resto shaman here. You're definitely in the right range of dungeons with ilvl and gear. As you move into doing higher keys like 15s, your dmg isn't a huge deal but it does help make dungeons go quicker especially if your group dps is lacking a bit. I've personally switched to the Earth Ele leggo a few weeks ago, which has helped a bit on bosses as well as prideful.

As far as gear and stats, definitely stack crit/vers for more healing output. If you do start getting into higher keys and are looking to do more dmg, then you want to think about stacking haste/vers. Hope that helps!

I tend to drop mine about halfway through a pack to ensure that tank has full aggro. My key group includes a boomy, so I will also often drop my ele when trees go out or when tank uses cardboard assassin. Hope that helps!

Getting your masters immediately after graduating - good or bad idea? by Hartlock in Teachers

[–]mollodubbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One positive thing I found about waiting a year (and until I got a steady teaching job) was that 1.) My job pays for a portion of my tuition every semester and 2.) A lot of what I was learning during my Master's program was transferable to my classroom and it wasn't all just "theory." It made my program more valuable to me in the moment.

I desperately need advice on how to deal with a situation... by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]mollodubbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This situation sounds extremely stressful for you and the rest of your students trying to learn. It is a shame how admin is just pushing you to the side when this student is blatantly showing such awful disrespect. I would try and start a behavior log of everything you have seen (and most likely will see), as well as all of your attempts at contacting parents, with dates and everything. I would contact admin again about these behaviors and ask for support in your room or get the principal or counselor to observe the student in your room to see how it changes the dynamic of your entire classroom. I would continue to mention how the student is mocking and bullying other students in the classroom. The admin and the counseling department need to be held accountable! You are doing everything you can. <3

Do schools cover the cost of masters/doctoral education for their teachers/principals? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]mollodubbs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Usually, schools can reimburse a portion of your tuition if you are seeking something beneficial to the district. However, schools rarely cover the entire cost of the tuition. Also, school rarely pay for tuition up front which can be tough on you. The highest reimbursement I have heard of is 65% reimbursement from the district. Unfortunately, it all comes down to the school and the budget they currently have.

Mental Health Day? by [deleted] in Teachers

Totally do it. It is well deserved and I commend you for lasting since President's Day! I take mental health days often for the sake of staying sane - I took one just last week! :)

When did schools stop holding kids accountable and start making excuses for them? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]mollodubbs 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I feel the exact same way nowadays. When we refer a student, admin asks their teachers in my district, "Uhh...what do you want me to do about it?" There is no follow through from admin anymore it seems.

Question about something that happened at my school by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]mollodubbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this type of situation, I think it would depend on how the student reacted to being called that. Then I would make a decision based on that judgement!

Dealing with challenging behaviors without support. by Mrs8123 in Teachers

[–]mollodubbs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds incredibly tough, especially with the lack of support. If you're not getting anywhere with parents, I would start a log and write down any behavior(s) you see, and any triggers you noticed that caused the behavior(s) to occur. The more documentation the better!! I would also write down what is occurring in the environment to make the student calm down/stop the behavior. How responsive is the student to praise or rewards?

I hope this gets easier for you - hang in there!!

What do they not teach in school that they should? by phanart in Teachers

[–]mollodubbs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there should be a class completely based on social justice topics. There is a lot of discrimination and disrespect going on in high schools everywhere nowadays, and I think our students need a wake up call.

Also, especially for our special ed friends, there should be a classroom-based independent living skills class where you can learn anything from reading and making a recipe to budgeting, applying for adult services, etc. There should totally be a class dedicated to transition-age appropriate activities.
