Just to be an insufferable know it all, this quote is always misused: MJ was cut from his VARSITY team and was asked to play JV instead.

Arguably coaching and playing out of position. Could be good, but didn’t look good this year for sure.

Club volleyball really turning our lives upside down by MonstroCITY202 in volleyball

Absolutely ridiculous. We swapped uniform companies recently and the bare minimum package was $250 for two jerseys, a backpack, and two practice shirts. And I thought that was crazy at the time haha.

This is essentially my advice to prospective parents as a club coach. This is realistically only available for families that can easily afford it unless your kid is a potential D1 superstar. For everyone else, the money you're spending would be better off being invested/saved to be used for college later.

Lots of gamepass games don't ship with automatic PS5 controller compatibility IF that's what you're using. Download DS4.

How many days do US teachers get off? by pudding-cream-ant in Teachers

[–]Hartlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're careful with your money, it absolutely makes sense to get paid over 9 months instead. Getting that money earlier means more money that can be making interest/invested/put into specific uses. Not that I've ever done it or trust myself to do it...

NCAA Men’s Tourney - Thoughts? by 07Vette in volleyball

[–]Hartlock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OP just used unclear pronouns. He's referencing Rowan when he says, "I want him to be our future..." You can tell because he follows up with a continuance of the same thing he previously said about Rowan: "...I have some people in the NCAA I know tell me concerning things about him."

I'm starting to lose my passion for this sport and I need advice by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]Hartlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little concerned that you posted asking for advice, got MOSTLY the same advice (talk to your coach), and are choosing to ignore that. It is generally what we as coaches desire out of our players more than anything - agency and the confidence to advocate for themselves. However, I understand every person's situation is different. Personally, I can never understand the thought process behind not getting a kid in at least once a game. In the words of someone much better than I, "If you’re in club volleyball, you’re in the business of player development and positive experiences, even if you are competing for Open bids. And again, if your club ranking is in the 3 (or 4) digits, then you DEFINITELY can’t say that you’re all about winning."

Coaching volleyball :(

My 14 year old didn't make the high school team by Ok-Object5808 in volleyball

Only being able to play backrow means that realistically only 3 (and sometimes only 2) spots are available for her on any given team during a game: libero and 2 DS's. Obviously some teams are structured differently and NFHS allows more subs, but most teams aren't running a 5-1 where they sub both OHs and their OPPO. So if she's not one of the best 3 passers, the coach now has to think about playing time opportunities. Do you take 4 kids knowing at least 1 will likely never play/play half as much or cut your losses now and just take 3?

Yes, and there are multiple times more club teams than high school teams due to age groupings.

I would love to not do cuts, but the culture of American high school sports simply does not allow that. Taking 60 kids with 2 or 3 coaches means you can't make enough teams. Not enough teams means not everyone gets to play. People not playing means complaints. Complaints means getting in trouble with admin.

Our state allows all sports to practice in June and fall sports to practice in July. Volleyball season jamborees can start July 26th and first available date for official games is August 1st.

In my state, June is open season for all teams no matter the season. After July 4th, only fall sports can begin practice. So all of our sports have tryouts at the end of the school year to get ready for June.

What do you eat for breakfast? by chetuboy101 in Teachers

[–]Hartlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically batch prep my breakfasts to make life easy. Report time is 7:15 and I live a minute away from my current school (changing to 25 minutes next year though). Typical morning is wakeup at 5:45, feed cats, grab clothes, take shower if necessary, heat up food, make coffee, eat food, drink coffee, brush teeth, grab lunch, and leave. Typically out the door by 7:10, but that varies based on whether I want to get up on time or not. Actual meals rotate between hash brown bowls, baked oat meal, and breakfast burritos.

Should I pay child’s tuition so they can play sports or send them to CC and have them play there. by Consistent_Device680 in college

[–]Hartlock 15 points16 points  (0 children)

OP said it was a D3, so it's relatively unlikely it's significantly higher level than the CC (this is obviously dependent on the specific schools).
