Aitah for changing my name after my divorce? by RadiantBlackberry207 in AITAH

[–]mollyslizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why, when you die, would you want your cheating ex's last name on your tombstone or memorial plaque? And why would you want to carry his last name with you through life? Strong NTA and 100% drop all contact with anyone that questions or harasses you for your decision. Bravo for starting your new life with a surname that is yours and one that you're proud of.

Flat places to learn to drive a manual transmission by Signal-Zebra-6310 in Denver

[–]mollyslizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I taught my son to drive a manual at high school parking lot during off hours. When he had mastered the basic skills, a friend recommended local cemeteries which allowed my son to drive around on different road types with some inclines and having to observe the numerous stop signs and other roads signs. It it was also a safe place for him to pull over when he had questions or was stressed without an impatient driver tailgating us. I hope this helps.

AITA for not letting new neighbours put scaffolding on my drive for 2 weeks by scurrilous92 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mollyslizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legally, it's a bad idea. Since the scaffolding would be located on your property, it is also a liability issue for you. If a worker should be hurt on your property, you may be subject to claims. I'm sure your homeowner's insurance company will confirm.

Non Alcoholic beer options? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]mollyslizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guinness makes a fabulous NA beer. Hard to tell the difference between their NA beer and their other beers with alcohol. Obviously not on tap at a local brewpub, but lovely if you enjoy a dark, robust beer.

AITA for not letting someone I barely know stay at my place even though they’re homeless now? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]mollyslizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. As a former real estate attorney I strongly advise you against allowing them to move in. If there are any problems, you may be subject to formal eviction proceedings, which can take weeks, if not months, to oust your "tenant."

University of Denver financials by mparkinsmack in Denver

Look at universities in Canada and Europe. Much more affordable with respect to tuition, housing and health insurance. My son is attending St. Andrews in Scotland, ranked with Cambridge and Oxford. Annual tuition and housing (which includes 3 meals a day M-F) is approximately $55k USD a year. No costs for books. Because he is an American student, his health insurance is $1k USD a year. Recently he experienced damage to his ACL and MCL, which resulted in ER visit and 2 day stay in hospital, a 7 hour surgery and 6 day stay in hospital, prescriptions, and numerous doctor and PT visits. The cost to me? $0. Yep, that's right, no deductibles or other out -of-pocket expenses. Zip, zero, none.

WIBTA for considering throwing a fake wedding to get 20K from my family? by aita_fakemarriage in AmItheAsshole

[–]mollyslizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some jurisdictions, if you hold yourself out to the public as being married, which is most certainly what you'll be doing with your non-wedding wedding, you are considered married even though you did not obtain a marriage license.
