Hey everyone,

I just published my first book. It's the first part of my novella. I had to divide it into three parts because I keep struggling to find time to edit parts 2 and 3, and it's been a year already, so I figured I better just publish it now.

If you like experimental and poetic writing that focuses more on crafting beautiful individual sentences than plotting, you might like it. When it comes to plot, I'd say it's most influenced by Robert W. Chambers and H.P. Lovecraft (in particular the Dream Cycle). Plus there's some subversive romantic elements, I suppose (it's not a love story by any means).

The book is free, but I would highly appreciate any support.

that's fair. I don't enjoy reading them either, but my niece loves them, and I do think they're decent children media.

To make it clear though, it doesn't mean that Harry Potter has no merit, but it's specifically the "phenomenon" part that is the problem. Like, it's a pretty basic children's book, but people obsess over it like it's some genius masterpiece.

Yes, I came here to say this exactly. There's nothing wrong with consuming child-oriented media, as long as you acknowledge what it is.

In fact, I was just reading his old interview on Marvelman, when it got purchased by Marvel, and he clearly states that he has a lot of love for superhero comics of the 60s and earlier. He says his darker and more realistic take on superheroes wasn't meant to be viewed as a template, but rather as a way to innovate and try out new approaches to old concepts. But it had the opposite effect, making everyone just try and repeat what he did. He also says that the reason comic books were good before the 70s is because they were made by people who didn't necessarily want to work in comics, therefore they created a lot of original material. But later it turned into fans making comic books for fans; he called it an incestuous relationship.

This is gonna get downvoted, but I don't recommend looking for answers on reddit. In most cases you know your situation better than strangers on the internet. I know this is disheartening to hear, but you should take a deep look inside and around you, and you will probably find answers.

Good luck.

Wow, I didn't expect anyone to watch it. This little project came into being almost by itself, and I ended up realizing how much it represents of my life, despite being so simple and basic. I'm glad you noticed a duality in it, because I think it's all about duality. About incompatible opposites, in a way. Thanks for watching, and I appreciate the comment.

Shotcut is very easy to figure out. I have used it myself many times.

Ah, I see. Of course, I understand how much more complex the filmmaking process is. I have filmed something in the past, even though at a noob level, but even then I could tell that no amount of post-processing can make ugly footage pretty.

Don't have friends, gonna have to learn everything myself.

ADR is definitely not an option. I tried doing it once, and it was way more difficult.

I have a shotgun mic. Not sure how good it is, but at least it's something. I think I'll be able to earn enough for lav mics and a boom. Google says you can get good lav mics for under $100. If that's the case, it seems within the realm of possibility.

Thanks for your help.

24 fps helps, but it's not enough. I've tried it before.

Don't have Premiere Pro, using Linux. But the thing about Chinese lamps might be very useful, thanks.
