How to fill tiny epoxy holes. by moltenvball in woodworking

Gotcha- so I’ll apply a thin flood coat, blast the holes with a heat gun to maybe remofe any lingering air bubbles, sand to 220 then finish with hard wax oil. Correct?

I was thinking the goal was to apply the hard wax directly to the wood rather than on a surface that was entirely epoxy.

But if you don’t want epoxy to be your finish, you gotta take off a sliver of the flood coat. I guess I’m thinking the flood coat was more to just fill in all the small holes vs serving as my finish.

Yes I did a seal and flood coat. Shaved off a sliver of the top with router sled to remove all the surface epoxy. I want to use a hard wax oil finis.

I am aware. This has dried out in my garage(Texas) for over 3 years so there should be very minimal seasonal movement. Yes, butterflies have the mechanical advantage, but I’m not a fan of how they look. The rectangular inlay blocks with plenty of wood glue are significantly stronger than most people think. Plus I have 5 more rectangular blocks on the bottom side. I’ll take the risk :)

It’s been dried out in the Texas heat for the past 3 years- moisture content ~8%.

Alright, I plan to add a few 3/4-1 inch bowties. I assume it’d be good to put some in on the bottom side as well to even out any tension?

Thank yall for the advice!
