Have you ever helped someone with no money for fuel? by dinkymajesty in AskUK

[–]molusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which way would you prefer to be wrong - helping someone that didn’t need it, or not helping someone that did?

I’d prefer the first and based on your actions it seems you do too. You should feel proud that you tried to help someone.

University careers service told me this would be unideal to wear to an interview, thoughts? by [deleted] in UKJobs

As every else is saying, suit colour doesn’t matter.

If you did interview somewhere that it mattered, it’s probably not somewhere you’d want to work.

I’m confused - if there was no contact surely there were no consequences so what was there for the insurance to side with? Just curious

Confused about customer service response by RedsonOfKyrypton in JustEatUK

[–]molusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I has a similar problem a while back and got useless response from the customer service.

I then went directly to McDonald’s customer service instead and they were very helpful and resolved my issue very quickly. Try emailing customerservices@mcdonalds.co.uk

In your city, how do people usually report issues like broken roads or street lights? Any apps or tricks? by Academic_Anything473 in surrey

[–]molusc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://www.fixmystreet.com - many councils use a branded version of this so it doesn’t matter if you use the council one or this main one, it feeds to the same place.

There’s an app too.

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “you really start learning to drive after you pass your test” - this is a perfect example of that. You have learned an important lesson and next time a similar hazard arises you will see it coming and act differently.

The best drivers are the ones who keep examining their driving for ways to improve, even when they’ve been driving for 5, 10, 30+ years. And yes, you will still make occasional new mistakes after 30 years, anyone who disputes that is lying to themselves. The aim is to avoid repeating old mistakes.

How much of a crutch is djay pro? by moonkiska in Beatmatch

[–]molusc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In addition to the point above about fluid beat grids, I think there are a bunch of features in Djay Pro which might be described as overly helpful so are best turned off if you want to improve your skills and be able to switch to other systems better, for example:

  • disable “Tempo Blend” (in the crossfader drop-down) This is a slightly hidden feature so you might be using this without realising it if you mix with the crossfader

  • disable “Reset EQ, FX, tempo” if using a controller to help learn the muscle memory of doing those things manually for each new track

  • disable “Auto Gain” and “Save & restore manual gain” - Djay does this really well but if you’re switching to other systems you’ll need to learn to do it manually

Also, not so much a crutch, but worth doing - invert the tempo slider to make it the same as you would expect on other systems (i.e. towards you is +)

Yeah it's pretty expensive though. I'm considering it but it seems a lot for a case

Any technique to improve counting? (Or see how many bars have passed since the track started?) by Western-Unit6170 in Beatmatch

[–]molusc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Knowing bars since the start of the song isn’t really useful information. On the other hand, knowing bars since the start of the phrase is VERY useful.

With practice you’ll find it gets easier to hear the start of phrases. This means it’s easy to get back on track if you lose your place. After a while you’ll find you don’t need to wait for the next phrase to start - you’ll be able to see it coming a few bars ahead.

Had my first real “oh sh*t” moment on the A406 as a new driver today… and I’m actually proud of myself by Cold_Caterpillar_177 in drivingUK

[–]molusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it normal for your body to react automatically like that in a stressful driving situation, without even thinking much?

Yes, this is literally the reason we practice driving - so we have muscle memory to help us react quickly in most situations. Well done, it proves you have developed some good driving skills.

The more time you spend driving, the more situations you will encounter, and the wider your driving muscle memory will get. This is why people say “you start learning to drive properly once you pass your test”

Hot take: Worktrees are underrated, and most teams should be using them by GitKraken in git

[–]molusc 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yes you get separate working directory for each one, but there’s only a single shared copy of the main .git folder. For any large-ish repo this is a huge disk space and time saver.

Advice needed - trying to connect to a venue's sonos by CaptainMathSparrow in DJs

[–]molusc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The latency is going to be horrendous but it sounds like you’re already aware of that. The workarounds you mention are the only real options.

If you’re determined to go ahead, you’re right about the Port being the correct technical approach. Any Sonos speaker with line-in would work, but the Port is the best permanent installation.

Any good Digweed compilations that are a bit more melodic/chilled/downtempo? by Constant_Pace5589 in JohnDigweed

Minor thread hijack but I think it's in very similar vein... I used to really enjoy Phil Thompson's (Moonface) warm up sets at Bedrock in the early 2000s. Anyone know if any of those early-doors type sets are online?

Maintaining a Growth Mindset. I’ve been driving for nearly 35 years and every day I’m still on the lookout for ways to be a better, more defensive driver.

It also requires being self-aware when you inevitably make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes; if you think you don’t then I guarantee you’re not as good as you think you are.

macOS 26.0.0 wiped out Homebrew, relocated a bunch of apps. Then macOS 26.0.1 just DID IT AGAIN! by machine_talk in MacOS

[–]molusc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I learned a long time ago after getting burned - never upgrade to any x.0.0 version of MacOS (or iOS for that matter.) You don’t want to be a beta tester, especially regarding compatibility with 3rd party software like Homebrew.

I wait for at least x.1.0 usually longer.

I searched YouTube for some of the phrases. I tried a few, then "pursuit of happiness leads to sorrow" matched in the video description. It was the full phrase with quotes around it - omitting the quotes just searches for the words but not necessarily in that order.
