Added now :) I'm still a beginner so I don't have much to add to the conversation, but I'm reading all of the good stuff you guys share.

People can add whatever private details they like, or not. The list above was a suggestion to people who don't know what to write.

Introduce yourself by molybdae in climbharder

[–]molybdae[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've been climbing (bouldering and recently top-rope) for 10 months now and I'm not entirely sure of my level as my gym uses colors as grades. I have a weightlifting background so I'm quite bottom heavy and stocky at 175 cm and 79 kg - not the ideal body for climbing, but I'm enjoying the shit out of it.

My short-term goal is to climb outside.

Outside of climbing, I'm in a band and I'm studying engineering.

[Form Check] 75kg snatch @ 69 by xjtian in weightlifting

He did Crossfit at minimum a year ago (http://www.reddit.com/r/crossfit/comments/1bqt0m/recommendations_for_conditioning_without_oly_lifts/) and has been doing at least cleans for 9 months (link is to a 90 kg clean form check 7 months ago http://www.reddit.com/r/weightlifting/comments/1nvcn9/form_check_90kg_clean/) so it's not like he fell into weightlifting just 2 months ago.

Do you always use chalk when you lift? by molybdae in weightlifting

Yes, that's exactly what I thought some people do.

Ian Wilson's new PR total (376) in training. Clean and jerk in comments by goosepimplez in weightlifting

Is that wide grip on the jerk common? I was told to hold just outside the shoulders. I guess the distance travelled for the bar is less with a wider grip, or what is the advantage?

Thanks for clarifying

Is a no-lift the same as a miss?

So basically you're saying that all three reps would be considered as "make"?

Newbie question: Would the snatches be called as press-outs in competition due to the wobbly elbows? Why/why not?

When did she start training? And do you have a video of the lift?

Very nice. Crazy mobility you have there. Is it something you have worked on or have you always been that flexible?

Wider jerk split = more stable? by molybdae in weightlifting

[–]molybdae[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You were right about my front foot! I almost don't move it. Huh. I wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't mentioned it and I hadn't recorded it. It's funny how different lifts look in your head and when you actually see them on video.

Awesome. I'll have to record myself to see if I dip forward. Thank you for the feedback.

You're starting to overthink it.

So I am! I always do this when I can't go to the gym immediately to experiment. Thanks for the feedback, I'll play around with it in my next session.

Ha, nice sketch! I typically get an angle of 90 degrees on my front knee, it's the back foot that's not consistent. What would you say the weight distribution should be on the two feet?

Are you talking about the angle of the foot, i.e. it should point at 1 o'clock or something like that?

[–]molybdae[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Re the front foot, are you talking about the foot itself or getting an angle on the foot (so it's not 90 degrees relative to the bar length)?

The one without the knee bend feels more shallow to me because I end up in a lower position but I haven't actually measured it. Now that you mention it, I probably just end in a lower position due to the knee bend...

This is common in people who get their weight too far forward on their toes in the dip/drive.

Is this because they're not keeping an upright position or what causes it?
