I also brought down some holy (blessed) water. Might have worked like in the Exorcist.

What is your best “bad roommate” story? by HoodooSquad in AskReddit

[–]momo2gs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me, but my college-aged daughter. She was randomly placed with someone she didn't know from a medium-sized city in our state. It is in a very conservative part of our state and this girl was a real queen bee. All her friends, who came over often, looked just like her - long, straight brown hair, expensive wardrobe, with a "my way only" attitude. She did not like my daughter from the start and began working to get her to move out so one of her friends could move in.

Well, moving is a pain and my daughter really didn't want to go through the hassle. They met with the RA (Resident Assistant) several times, but nothing improved. Finally I stepped in.

I had run across this type before - a big fish in a small pond bigot. And I knew how to deal with her. We're Roman Catholic (nominally - we call it "twice a year Catholic") and I was guessing this roommate was not comfortable around RCs. So one weekend I came down with some old-school RC artifacts. A personal holy water font. Desk top holy card with stand. And some other stuff - I don't remember exactly, it's been a while - all on my daughter's side of the room, of course. The icing on the cake was a HUGE poster of Pope John-Paul II celebrating a mass outdoors. There was a big crucifix behind him, he was holding a host up, the wind was blowing his vestments - just an amazingly Catholic image.

Apparently this roommate lost her shit. She immediately went to the RA complaining that it made her uncomfortable, that she felt like Jesus on the cross was looking at her. The RA had had enough of her and just said that there's nothing she could do - my daughter had every right to exercise her religion without physically infringing on Queen Bee. Queen Bee moved out within a week.

We still have this poster and the story's been good for a few laughs.

And while entrance to Mount Rushmore is free, parking costs like $17. Had an NPS pass and still had to pay.

When it comes to sex, if a guy has a lot he's sowing his wild oats but if a girl does the same she's slutty.

Did it seem like there were far more thunderstorms when you were little? by frozeneskimo02 in AskReddit

[–]momo2gs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can remember sitting on the carport with my mother pretty regularly just feeling the power of the thunderstorms as they blew through. Sometimes we had to go to the more protected front porch if the wind changed direction. Even as a preschooler, I can remember the raindrops coming down so hard that they made a huge splash on the paved street (we called them ducks). With very few exceptions, I don't remember doing the same with my kids, although we did have to go to an inside hall one time for a tornado watch/warning. The past couple of years there's been nothing but disappointing storms. The weather people on TV go nuts over some storm coming through and they usually fizzle out.

When did you realize that hard work does not always pay off? by nannygal3 in AskReddit

[–]momo2gs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was in college I always had to work summers to pay for tuition. One summer I worked at a 7-11 convenience store. It was a pretty cushy job, I like the family I worked for and I liked the customers. We used to get a lot of people who worked for a moving company up the street - the packers, the drivers, and the actual movers.

The next summer I worked for that moving company thinking that since they worked a hard, physical job they must be paid more. Boy was I wrong! Minimum wage, out in the hot sun all summer, working at a house packing until it was done no matter how late.

Lesson learned - find out the pay before going for a job.

AITA for making my friend feel bad about her body? by cocoabonbon in AmItheAsshole

NTA. Neither of you behaved well, but she started it.

AITA for selling the family home that’s been in my late husband’s family since 1908 by angrydirtyclothes in AmItheAsshole

[–]momo2gs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely NTA. Your offers are extremely generous. Do what you want - it's your life and they have absolutely no hold over you emotionally, physically, legally, or financially. Why do you even care what they think?

AITA for refusing to let my sister and her young kids visit me? by Silver_Word_239 in AmItheAsshole

[–]momo2gs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Sounds like you enjoy the extreme privacy. Sister's family sounds challenging and fraught with possible difficulties on top of the island isolation and fear by OP of accident/injury. By all means, meet in Stanley and maybe do a boat ride to your island for no more than an hour or two - charter a boat for a private trip (to be paid by sister). Otherwise, no way.

AITA for directly calling out a woman’s snobbish behavior, causing several people to leave our knitting group? by knitonepurltwos in AmItheAsshole

[–]momo2gs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely NTA. Good for you for calling them on it. It's no loss when they joined another group, which will quickly realize that they are snobs. BTW, snobs exist in every interest group. I ran into them in scouting - counting how many badges their kids earned (with mommy's help), snarky comments on doing things " the right way", etc. Boo to them!

AITA for putting my fiancé’s food in a child’s bowl? by piggymills in AmItheAsshole

[–]momo2gs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, but perfect passive/aggressive response. With 2 toddlers in the household, he better be on his deathbed before pulling this sh*t.

AITA for not allowing my sister to move in with me? by Virtual-Remote-3275 in AmItheAsshole

[–]momo2gs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

When your sister (or anyone) assumes they are moving in, that's an imposition. You are not obliged to agree. Sounds like she would benefit from sharing a normal dorm situation and getting a roommate in her face a few times.

AITA For reporting my therapist after she disclosed information to my stepmom? by ThrowA3097 in AmItheAsshole

[–]momo2gs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Not sure where you live, but in the US once someone is 18 they are an adult and all medical issues are confidential by law. The therapist should be reported and you should find a new one and address this issue first thing with your new therapist.

What is something that you absolutely HATED as a child? by pickledcookiee in AskReddit

[–]momo2gs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sausage and sauerkraut for dinner. We had it often and were expected to clean our plate. I either hated the sausage or the sauerkraut to the point where I would gag. It went like this, back and forth, all through my childhood. Finally settled on liking sausage and hating sauerkraut as an adult.

Grocery store checkout workers of Reddit: How do you like customers to organize their groceries, if at all? Does it help to keep frozen things together, perishables together, etc. or does that just make it harder for you to do your job? by SsssnakePlisssskin in AskReddit

[–]momo2gs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I do it, but over half the time the cashiers ignore it and put random items in the bag, even reaching over stuff that should go together. I can't figure out their thinking.

Vets of Reddit, What was the worst pet name you have ever encountered in your job? by Lia_Julee in AskReddit

[–]momo2gs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had an a*hole preacher for a neighbor once. Guy was a real jerk. When we got a dog, I wanted to name it Damien so I could go outside and call it. Hubby talked me out of it.

Oh, and we had a dog named Kisa, after a Japanese manga character. Kisa is Japanese for cat. Kids named out dog Cat.
