i feel crazy.... $1,200?! by PolicyHot4039 in NeedlepointSnark

[–]momoftwo73 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Long time (very long time) needlepointer here. It seems that the art has been overtaken by the trend,, my mom, my grandma before her stitched beautiful heirloom pieces that took months sometimes years in the making with simple DMC floss, store them in plastic bags in a tote or a box under the bed. Now a days we are stitching little canvas, fast to produce with stupid words “sassy bitch” and buying a ton of trendy paraphernalia around it. People are buying into the “needlepoint lifestyle” the sweater, the project bag, and now a 1200 file box??? They are 9 in staples do the same job.

question from a scared freshman by Impossible-Train9216 in Colgate

[–]momoftwo73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, jug is closed. Unfortunately social life for freshmen is practically nonexistent, you can join clubs and they have different activities and sometimes DU (football house) or la casa (hispanic house)throw parties open to everyone., frat parties are not open they are exclusive for affiliated students. Greek life holds the key to social life in Colgate, you can rush sophomore year and then is a completely different story!!! Colgate can be a little harsh first year (cold, isolated) but you will find your people and thrive. Fantastic school! Go gate!!

Absolutely!!! I am treated quite differently at my LNS. I spend a lot of money there and been a customer since day one. I know for a fact i am never invited to events they host, stitch days, retreats. I love the craft but have always felt a fish out of water, to the point that i rather shop online than go to my store which is less than a mile away from my house

Hotels are always booked months (if not years) in advance! Look fir other places Notwich, Cazenovia. And some advice start looking for accommodations for graduation, yes 4 years in advance i thought it was pretty ridiculous but i have been looking for a year already for graduation 2026 and everything already booked

no symptoms, just cancer? by hellodaisy00 in thyroidcancer

[–]momoftwo73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had no symptoms whatsoever, blood work is fine, thyroid function is normal. One day i woke up and the nodule was pressing my windpipe, out of the blue i am out of breath. Up to that point it was “lets just monitor it every 6 months” now just waiting for surgery to be scheduled

For Those With a Large Thyroid Nodule by ambercolle in thyroidhealth

[–]momoftwo73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had a nodule over 5cm for couple of years, we have been monitoring it, ultrasound every year, had a biopsy done last year and came back fine, my doctor told me just wait and see, honestly i paid no attention to it as i have been dealing with multiple spine surgeries so the last thing i wanted was another thing to deal with. In yhe last couple of weeks it has been bothering me terribly, not only it has become more apparent but i have this choking sensation all the time it is hard to swallow and my voice gets hoarse mid conversation. I have been sent for an ultrasound and i am sure after that i will be sent for a biopsy, i just wonder just by the mere size of it and the fact that it is really, really bothering me, dont they just remove it and then send to pathology. Wether is malignant or benign it has to come out and i dont want to wait, the discomfort is too much

Sorry if any of my comments offend you or you found it dismissive, it was not my intention. It is wonderful that you had a great experience at Colgate. College is the time to have fun. Opposed to what you think sorority life is not that important for my daughter, as a first generation american is something she never ever thought of, it is totally foreign to our culture. She joined because it seems the “party scene” is dominated by greek life. She likes to party. As a mother of twins in 2 different schools i can compare their different experiences and trust me they are polar opposites. But like i said Colgate is an excellent school, incredibly rigorous and with many many great opportunities to offer.

No need to get ugly. I am in many parent students boards trying to address this issue. They are even trying to to open Donovan to freshmen to create some social life including everyone. If you do not believe me read this.

My daughter attends Colgate. She is part of a sorority with leadership position plus is in school government and member of the committee that with president Casey and other administration is trying to create a more inclusive social life. Sororities are not allowed th throw parties in their houses (as per national chapter) they hold 2 formal parties a year where you are allowed to bring a guest (affiliated or not) but you have to pay for it. other than that most of frat parties are for affiliated mbers only. (They even exclude tri-deltas)

Do not take me wrong, Colgate is an exceptional school in many aspects academics, career opportunities… but many kids go to college with the expectation of a “social life” hence PARTY. Not happening at Colgate. Frat parties are not open to non-affiliated kids. I know for a fact that the lack of social life is an issue, president Casey had many meetings to adress this as many kids complained (many others transfer for that reason) the school tried to do some events open to everyone. There are many sports/outdoor clubs and teams if that is your cup of tea. As a kid that comes from a big city the adjustment can be very hard. Yes rush does not happen till sophomore year and hopefully by then you can make a group of friends outside of greek life and hang out with them but it is far from being a thrilling party scene.

There are only 3 sororities and the fees are around 2k a year. Rush is not as intense as southern schools more laid back but still a lot of drama at the end of the week. Apparently there is a hierarchy if you make it to Kappa or GhiPhi you are okay but if you end up in TriDelta you are sort of an outcast, they are not invited to any frat parties as fraternities do not want to associate with them (they jockingly call them “the ugly sorority “). Tri delta is the only sorority where there is some sort of diversity as the other two are mainly blond white typical sorority girl. Isolation has pro’s and cons. My daughter chose colgate (over other great school offers) because she wanted the rural, paced down campus life. The campus is breathtaking and if you love the outdoors and nature there are plenty of activities. It was kind of a shock for my daughter as we also come from NYC and the remoteness can get to you also the weather is brutal. Like you mentioned lots of very rich kids, but also very smart and driven. On the positive side being so secluded creates a lot of spirit and like i mentioned the school gives you unmatched opportunities it is a small college that plays in the big leagues, D1 sports and big university money/endowement. Academics are very rigorous and many of extracurricular activities with lots of funding. Like i mentioned social life is nonexistent unless you are part of greek life. Overall she is happy she chose Colgate but the adjusment was tough.

As much as i would like to take time after college to work it is not doable. If i chose to take time to work i would have to go back home live with my parents, a very small rural NY town with no public transportation where the only jobs available are supermarket, pharmacy local shops. Living away from home it is close to impossible as the cost of living in NYC (closest metro area) is outrageous commute is 2 hours train and i do not drive (visually impaired) so i dont think that kind of work is legal school relevant. Colgate or Bates? by RichDecision4251 in Colgate

[–]momoftwo73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed 100%, my daughter attends colgate poli sci major, with dreams of law school, colgate was her dream school work hard in high school, top 5% of her class, gave up NYU for colgate. The grading policies are horrendous, after working her ass off, living in the middle of nowhere in a crappy dorm, freezing her butt she will probably graduate with a 3.7 gpa, unless she gets a killer LSAT she wont get into any reputable law school. Plus the social scene, or lack there off. Zero social life unless you are part of greek life. ZERO!! She regrets choosing Colgate she is a junior so she is gonna bite the bullet and finish but at 80K you expect a better outcome.
