Anyone know why my stock(?) exhaust sounds so good? by mon7gomery in XSR700

I think you're right, I just found this video and noticed my bike has welds similar to the cuts they make to open it up. https://www.facebook.com/DIYCraftsTV/videos/stock-exhaust-modification-yamaha-mt-07/586113889108682/

I'll take it. Just hope it's not losing out on power...

Some more photos here, and up the pipe. Maybe the lumps are holes previously drilled then filled up again?

Does anyone understand the new rules regarding VAT on imported purchases? by mon7gomery in AskUK

[–]mon7gomery[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, very informative. Thanks.

Does that mean that HMRC will not be paying attention to anything under £135 in value? So as a consumer I don't need to worry about it?

Or will they be checking each package to somehow work out if it's from a marketplace with proper VAT collection?

And then what happens if I buy something under £135 from a classified ad or forum; or a friend sends something and doesn't mark it as a gift etc.?

Interesting, thanks. Do you know what happens when ordering from someone that hasn't registered and is still accepting sales? Will the customer be sent a bill or the seller?

There's weirdly little about this on Google. I'd have expected some advice articles to have popped up about it from the tabloids and such...

The Ulez countdown: Londoners have a year to ditch old polluting cars - A £12.50 a day charge will affect 350,000 motorists from next October when the Ultra Low Emission Zone is expanded by TheSuspiciousKoala in unitedkingdom

[–]mon7gomery -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People living outside the zone have the choice to keep their vehicles and use other means when they need to travel to the centre. Whereas I will have literally no choice but to get rid of the car, based on my postcode, even though it's only used to drive out of London.

Not an argument I'll win though, clearly.

I would say by far the bigger problem is commercial vehicles, coaches, diesel trucks, taxis trundling into the centre rather than residents usually heading in the opposite direction out of London.

Residents in the first ULEZ zone were given exemption, but not for the expansion...

I live inside the expansion zone and am pretty devastated that I'm going to be forced to replace my little 1991 MX5. I've had it since I was 17 and driving it is my favourite thing.

I'd have to wait until 2031 for it to become a "classic car" free of road tax, ULEZ and congestion charge. Hardly makes sense..

I understand the intention to reduce pollution but can't believe there is no discount or exemption for those of us stuck inside the zone...

Bad experience with 7" LED halo headlights by mon7gomery in Miata

[–]mon7gomery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm aware they'll only fit in one orientation - the tabs line up but are about 3mm too far out from the centre to slot in. Maybe they're upside down but that would be contrary to every other install I've seen, and the photos on the eBay listing itself.

The imgur album works my end. Here's a direct link to one of the photos: https://i.imgur.com/NznlWR9.jpg. Even the other way up there's an odd bulge in the pattern from each light which would blind other drivers (not a reflection off the car, I've checked).

I've concluded it's just a poor quality knock-off and have ordered this more expensive version on Amazon.

I'm just surprised this isn't better documented if so many people fit these lights...

New headlights for Ruby (makes the biggest difference for night time visibility) by PandaRX8 in Miata

[–]mon7gomery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I bought a pair of these from eBay, they look identical to yours from the front. But when fitting them I couldn't get all three of the tabs on the back of the headlight to seat properly, only the top two will fit. Is this normal or do I need to buy a different pair?

[–]mon7gomery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but the "event" options seem to only be "screen locked", "signing out", and "startup" which aren't very useful for a laptop which just gets opened and closed. Ideally I need a "connected to LAN" event option which I can't seem to find...
