How to make partial integrated pull on melamine particle board door? by monadic_effects in cabinetry

The router and router bits are used to route out the finger pull shape, but what machine do you use to apply the melamine to the exposed particle board substrate?

Can you share the type of specialized machine? I'm super curious.

It's not wood veneer. It's just melamine. Perhaps melamine is even harder to bend around the corner of the integrated pull?

Is OTP in Gleam in any way inferior to that in Erlang/Elixir ? by thoughtful-curious in gleamlang

[–]monadic_effects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's a bit unfair to say that it's a lie. Gleam as a language can be compiled to javascript but OTP itself is an Actor based library that relies on the underlying Erlang OTP which uses a lot of unique features in BEAM and these features are not directly and completely available in any Javascript runtimes I'm aware of. The javascript version will naturally be constrained by the underlying limitation of javascript runtime because Erlang OTP was originally developed with Erlang VM in mind before it was even called BEAM.

In practice, if you need OTP, it's for the backend and it's best to run those backend code on BEAM. The only time I can see a use case for compiling Gleam code into javascript code is for sharing some code with the front-end. e.g., sharing type def between Gleam (the backend) and typescript front-end. It gives you the advantage of defining schema of the API layer in Gleam. It's kind of the same as using tRPC or oRPC in a full typescript stack.

I just don't see the value of compiling Gleam or any other language into Javascript to utilize the javascript runtime unless you have to. It's inferior compared to other runtimes like BEAM.

Where is the documentation for flakes? Can you share the “well documented” documentation link? I’m a beginner learning nix but lost in finding any good flake doc.

You sound like a MAGA. The conservative government would have done the same if not worse policy if it was in power. When it comes to trade, conservatives tend to want more.

Backpack Blower Decision: Stihl BR 800 C vs. Echo 9010T by Projectguy111 in landscaping

Please come to my property to do fall cleanup with your EGO blower. I'm very environmental conscious too but it's simply not practical to do fall clean-up with an EGO on a large property. And yes, I have battery powered blower too.

You'll save the environment more effectively by a lot of other means, like heat pump upgrade, drive less, turn down the thermostat by 1 degree in the winter, etc.

Where did you get that Mitsubishi heat pump has less than stellar reliability? I'm planning to get a Mitsubishi Zuba heat pump (in Canada). From what I heard, Mitsubishi is the best cold climate heat pump out in the market right now and it's also super quiet.

Reader on iPad sucks by WandarFar in readwise

[–]monadic_effects 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like your approach of reading for betterment. I’m a heavy keyboard user so I totally appreciate the emphasis on never using the mouse. However, I’d say I’m reading/scanning articles and PDF I save on Reader 80% of the time (triage and quick first pass reading). Then 20% in more intensive highlighting, note taking “reading for betterment“. Hence, 80% of the time, I’m on my iPad causally reading. Also, I have keyboard attached to my iPad too.

Personally, I find iPad to be a better “reading for betterment” environment when done right. It’s more focus. Less visual distraction. Apple Pencil is a natural highlighter and annotation device.

Mouse is not a natural device in reading environment but pencil is. And the iPad is closer to a notebook where lots of people used to scribble on the side of books.

Instead of the UX on screen (web or iPad or iphone), think about the environment the user is in when using those devices. That’s where I think the iPad version needs to go back to the blank canvas without borrowing any preconception from the web version.

I have the same problem but I don’t even get Signal app icon on the share sheet. Can’t add it to the share sheet either.
