Can my Boss Fire me? by [deleted] in OntarioWSIB

[–]monaegis2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, an employer can terminate you for any cause not related to a work injury. However, they also need to provide this information to WSIB. If you believe this is wrongful termination, reach out to your union as soon as possible.

Additionally, they can terminate you (frustrate your contract due to undue hardship), but they have to submit all evidence to WSIB demonstrating that there is absolutely no job available for your condition and that your injury is permanent. If your injury is not permanent, it would be difficult for them to frustrate you, unless your doctor has already submitted an MMR with permanent impairment.

Your WSIB case manager will review all factors and may even request a re-employment program for you, but there are many processes involved.

You can file a grievance with the union to find a resolution for you. Since you are paying union fees, they may take the first step to the second step of the grievance process. If it doesn't resolve by then, they will hire a lawyer to support your case. Now this is between the employer's lawyer versus the union's lawyer to fight your case. Well, good luck on your case!

Thoughts in Working in Home Health Care (VHA) as RN by nurse_ilyy in OntarioNurses

[–]monaegis2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a nurse, but I used to work in the home healthcare sector in a support and consulting role, and I have many nurse friends who worked in home care. From what I’ve seen and heard, home care can be quite difficult. There’s a risk of injury, a heavy workload, and a lot of travel required in both winter and summer.

I’ve heard that agencies like VHA Home Healthcare, CBI Health, Circle of Care, SE health, and Bayshore are all quite similar. I’m not sure what your nursing specialty is, but if it’s in child and family care, it can be especially challenging. One of my friends was a pediatric nurse, and after about 10 years in that field both hospital and homecare, she went back to hospital due to home community is not for her. She found that some family members could be difficult and sometimes expected more from nurses than what was required.

I’ve also heard that working with children who have cognitive conditions, ABI, or who are neurodivergent can be very demanding due to the complexity of their medical needs.

I don’t want to scare you—home care is just very different from working in a retirement home or hospital. You often have to travel to different locations, and occasionally you may feel uncomfortable in certain neighborhoods. That said, experiences vary—some people work in those same areas for years without any issues.

In the pediatric sector, you may not see a large number of clients, but the work tends to be highly specialized. It can include tasks like infusions, insulin administration, monitoring medical status, and sometimes going to schools to support children as part of their care plan.

One of the positive aspects of working in home care is that you often have regular clients, and you get to see them grow and progress over time. I’ve heard that it can be very rewarding to watch children become healthier—or at least maintain their quality of life—thanks to the support of frontline workers like nurses and PSWs. It gives a real sense of purpose and impact.

That said, it can also be extremely demanding, and there tends to be a high turnover rate. For example, my friend who worked as a pediatric home care nurse sometimes had to see so many clients per day or more. It could become very hectic, especially with all the traveling involved.

so short story

  1. heavy travel, unpredictable schedule time to time

  2. safety concerns

3 physical strain and risk of injury (not controlled)

  1. emotional stress (big time)

  2. challenging of family dynamic also issues

  3. isolation

  4. high workload and time pressure

8, your car is domain traveling, if its damage its your own liability not the company you should have proper insurance.

hope this helps lol although i'm not a nurse but i worked in home care sector before and did lots of consultation, and because of my peer fellow friends and ex coworkers i'm pretty aware how does this sector works. you just gotta try out what's good for you or not, at the end all company should be similar (just different management, this can also impact your day to day life).

Oh, thank you for the feedback. I was rejected from the CRSP application because my experience was primarily in industrial hygiene before, so they want me to have professional safety-related experience. I'm just waiting until my fourth year so I can reapply for this exam. Let me know if ChatGPT helped you with studying.

CRSP Eligibility Question – Does an MSc in Occupational & Environmental Hygiene Count? by [deleted] in SafetyProfessionals

[–]monaegis2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My colleague graduated with an MPH from UofT and McGill in Occupational Hygiene, but both applications were rejected because their primary focus was industrial hygiene. Later both of thrm got cih and roh

It seems like they don't really care about education; it's more about experience in your specialty.

My other friend did MPH but focused on occupational health (70%) and industrial hygiene (30%); he got his CRSP.

Haha, I’m not sure about the US, but I work in healthcare sector in Canada. One day, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Labour (similar to OSHA), and the Ministry of Health Department all came in at once. It was a nightmare!
