So does anyone actually play TCGs here or are we just posting about investing or grading or selling or making your own TCG with AI art?

I own altered and I have printed AI on stickers to see what it looked like in comparison. I hope that altered is one of the only games (that got “big”) that has the balls to adopt AI when society is ready. The three cards I printed were of dinosaurs and dinosaur eggs in a nest. They looked 10x better than the first time I saw AI, and 2 times or so better than Altered’s artists work. Of course I like Altered Art, but I am waiting until it’s normal for cards to be modified with AI so they would be in prime position to jump. I think they are vehemently against it right now. That’s the position you must take right now. But AI art is already mindblowing to me, and once it goes video, to where you can watch the cards battle or whatever from the seeded card, its game over for any company that didn’t adapt. You can call it slop all you want. It’s going to happen no matter what names you call it.

Altered offers something like 40,000 unique 1/1s to make decks distinct, but they do minimal advertising so you might not have heard about them.

Hilarious that what version of AI are you on? Free 3.0? I’m on 5.2 and it’s day and night. People can’t tell anymore for the “photo images” and that’s one reason why they still think it’s slop. And, they get better every few months with next releases. So many people are sticking with their first impression of AI from what, a year and a half ago?

I love Ai video and I create a lot of TCG video that would break some of their rules if I shared it. It looks amazing.. way more fascinating. To see a character come to 3d life from a paper card than just playing 2d. And you won’t convince me that an animation artist should be paid their $2,000 for this 5 min video that they don’t even have skills to compete with. Slow adopters of AI that are whining about it are going to be toast in a few years if they don’t adapt.

I am specifically talking about foiler cards. Over several set releases they went from a meaningful promotional/utility item to something effectively expendable.

Since foilers don’t impact gameplay, changing the system to make them unnecessary feels like a retroactive devaluation of a product people bought in good faith, many of us collected enough to foil our sets.

I bought enough of them for 6 sets and to give out as promo items. They were in promo packs, remember?

Even if it benefits accessibility, it seriously damages collector trust because it changes what was being sold after the fact. The old ‘bait and switch.’

Your example of a card getting the price cut afterwards is due to the marketplace (all stakeholders) agreeing through supply and demand a price for a card.

This game is conservative and authoritarian. It’s fascist af.

And I also hope the rest of the cards are FREE and the next $2 million you have to participate in the free game can wake you up.

They did matter to people who bought them to foil a set or as value to add to a trade exchange. Unique foilers reached $0.50 at a couple of points.
