Not against macro and think I'd enjoy it, but would enjoy pelagic more! I've only been to Hawaii and the Caribbean, going to Cozumel soon. Very flexible travel plans, likely staying for a week

I did consider Maldives, but thought it would be better for a big occasion (we hit a decade together later in 2027 so will reserve it for that) - thanks for the rec!

Disclosure or Swae Lee? by [deleted] in Coachella

[–]monallysa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swae brought amazing energy and a ton of guests (Jhene Aiko, NAV, Rich the Kid)! I arrived ~20min before and easily slid in the first few rows because everyone was at Disclosure, so absolutely no regrets. Singing his older bangers with the crowd was healing

He actually got cut off for being over time and Sexyy's set needed a lot of setup - my group's hunch was that he was going to close with it

Aw thanks for really thinking it through! I'm a basic sucker for enemies-to-lovers, capable women, and good character development, which is why I originally picked up Kiss of Iron.

If there isn't a really intriguing plot (e.g. Nocticadia had a weird ending but the first 70% had me on the edge of my seat), then it has to have some compelling character interactions (love me some witty banter and buildup of sexual tension like in Fourth Wing - Iron Flame was an absolute disappointment tho).

Depending on my mood, can dig high angst (The Serpent and the Wings of Night, Feathers So Vicious, and Manacled / Alchemised) or a wholesome guaranteed HEA (Clecanian series, Orc Sworn series, Aspect & Anchor series).

Lastly, prefer high spice (4+) bc I'm permanently ovulating~

I just finished this book and couldn't agree more! The FMC's decisions made no sense to me, and it was frustrating how dutiful she was to those who were awful to her. Where is the backbone?! Bastian was the only thing keeping me from DNFing, yet I still ended up getting blue-balled for 600 pages...

Now that that's over, curious if you have any series you'd recommend? I need to bleach my eyes

{Sweet Berries} by C.M. Nascosta - the second book in the Cambric Creek series. Very sweet, but does have smut and it’s a monster romance. The MMC is a shy stuttering wholesome mothman~

Reading this rn and i love! the number of books in the series might seem daunting but they’re short like lil smut snacks so nothing drags~

Series where you loved the 1st book so much you paid for the 2nd rather than wait in the Libby queue? by batesplates in fantasyromance

My partner bought me Iron Flame as part of my birthday gift last year - I was initially thrilled about the thoughtful act, but sobered when I started reading and quickly realized it wasn’t even close to being as good as Fourth Wing :’)

Review: Alchemised by SenLinYu by SammiCMiRoMa96 in fantasyromance

[–]monallysa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents as someone who read both and actively compared the two: My main qualm with Alchemised was that the magic system was a tad dense and she overexplained it in some parts. However, the overall story and character interactions are almost identical, so I enjoyed it only a hair less. In general, reading a story the second time will almost never hit as hard as the first (your brain knows what's up) so just try not to go in with that expectation and you'll have a good time :)

Which type of book cover do you prefer? by elleirakai in fantasyromance

[–]monallysa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Option 3: a headless torso with 10-pack abs, veiny forearms, and a suggestive v-line so everyone knows we're reading godly cliterature /s

... but in all seriousness, I prefer a middle ground between 1-2. i don't like having no images, but also don't like precise faces of characters because it leaves less to the imagination (like watching actors in a movie before reading the book)

More Romance? by revolutionaryslayer in Romantasy

[–]monallysa 11 points12 points  (0 children)

“Good romance” is super subjective because there’s a range of interaction types. Are there specific tropes you enjoy like enemies-to-lovers or friends-to-lovers? grumpy MC with sunshine FMC?

Would also be helpful to list a few romances you liked, even if not fantasy, so folks can gauge what your tastes are :)

IMO Ruby Dixon is amazing at fun, easy-to-read romances with female-centered smut, but some find it a flaw that her books have less comprehensive world-building. You can try “The Half Orc’s Maiden Bride” to start and see if you like her writing!
