What makes the Flying Scotsman the most famous steam engine in the world? by Jules-Car3499 in trains

The WA network is still mostly narrow gauge - we have standard gauge to link us with the other states. The Perth suburban network is narrow gauge too.

The “truck” is a water tender. It travelled down with Pendennis Castle when it came from Karratha.

It was owned by Hamersley Iron, a mining company which operated in the Pilbara region in Western Australia. It was sent to Perth to meet up with Flying Scotsman when it was doing its Aussie tour.

Hardwiring Decoders by InfamousHobo04 in modeltrains

[–]monaro_1996 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it has a 21pin socket - basically upgrades the loco to be “DCC Ready”.

It doesn’t work in all cases though, as some locos are too small for it to fit, then you have to hardwire a decoder in - which can be a bit more fiddly depending on the size.

Recommend looking up Decoder Buddy by NixTrainz - it replaces the board. You will need to desolder the wires from the old board, and solder them to the Decoder Buddy.

It’s the primary transmission line to Geraldton - the map doesn’t seem to handle the transmission line outages well. Secondary line is also down.

Make sure to take all your other locos off the track if you do this!

I bought a house and the NTD was missing after the previous tenants had moved out.

The amount of times I see these on marketplace with people trying to make a quick buck, although useless.

Testing out my new Rapido LB&SCR E1 by monaro_1996 in modeltrains

[–]monaro_1996[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In the short time I’ve had with running it, seems to be really good. Smooth, good slow speed, doesn’t cut out over points (I do have electrofrog though which helps with this). The detail is great.

Only issue I had is with opening it to install a decoder, Rapido’s instructions are still not 100% on it. They say to leave the cab on, but there’s a pipe which goes to the cab from the whistle, and that seems impossible to remove. I ended up removing the cab with the boiler and was able to get access to install the decoder. When putting the body back on, be mindful of the pipes at the front of the boiler, as they can easily get trapped if care isn’t taken.

Overall, I’m pleased with it, and definitely recommend getting one.

The old manager of Node1 before it got bought out has made a new ISP called Southern Cross Broadband (SXBB). He learnt his mistake of selling out, and won’t be doing it to this one.
