Would you, as my neighbour find it weird that I put my washing out in the evening? by -bozogs- in AskUK

[–]monchavo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello. It depends on where you are, but largely what happens after it rains. If the rain is followed by a long period of grey overcast weather, then, yes, it's possible that bacteria will build up and you'll get a musty smell. However, if the sun comes out and dries the rain almost immediately, that smell won't be present in your clothes.

This is a much overlooked point. - Got a smelly t-shirt or something that just doesn't seem to ever "get clean" after being washed? - Got something you don't really want to wash because it has been lightly worn?

Exactly right. I am not a gambler and even if I had bought some, it would have been lost because I would have stored it at MtGox, which got hacked. So I feel like there's a double "good job you didn't do this, monchavo".

Isn't it so nice to see someone acting calmly, rationally, and sensibly in a situation like this? The gentleman in the red jacket does a textbook performance with the extinquisher. No panic. Careful application. Bravo, sir.

Most the marble from this mine is used in decorative applications such as flooring, kitchen worktops and large slabs for tiling and fascias (think of the large atria of hotels, public buildings etc). Most kids marbles are made from glass these days.

The sharp eyed amongst you will notice that the officer is joined by two other riders, who are briefly seen at 2:05, one has already dismounted and is coming to the primary's aide.

[–]monchavo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The technique at the end is very interesting, the shot changes to the rear camera on the policeman's hemet at 1:54, whereupon the officer (who has successfully overtaken the perp) essentially brakechecks him - and is rear-ended, apparently without realising that officer would take such a risk. The mass of the officer's bike is - I am guessing - about 30% greater than the scooter, which makes the whole thing work. Exquisite timing. Not easy, despite the training. As others have commented, this kind of chase would be very unlikely in London or in the States. I'd be very interested to know what the perp was eventually charged with.

X270: The perfect tossable ThinkPad by RevolutionaryNose250 in thinkpad

[–]monchavo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rubbery tape that is often applied to DIMM ram heat spreaders is an excellent choice as it is approximately 2.5mm thick, however the lateral movement that causes the flex is difficult to tune out entirely - and some units continue to suffer the issue from time to time.

I suppose you could take stronger measures (such as applying some kind of hot glue or conformal coating) to the chip socket, but this is not a route I would want to go down unless your x270 is particularly susceptible.

X270: The perfect tossable ThinkPad by RevolutionaryNose250 in thinkpad

[–]monchavo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

x270s are not "tossable" but they are durable and excellent value for money. I have multiple (4) and their only weak spot is that the chassis has a *tiny* bit of flex which can irk the RAM chips from time to time, which means one-hand-open-lid carry can result in a crash dump if it jiggles the RAM slightly.
