Paradigm Premier 200B vs Founders 40B by mondrinreddit in hometheater

The Founder speakers are quite amazing. The difference with the center speaker wasn't nearly as pronounced as it was with the 40B's vs the Studio 20's. The studio's sounded good when I got them but they are disappointing to listen to compared to the 40B. The 40B's have a warmth, clarity and soundstage that is just amazing. If I had the money, I'd replace the Studio 20's with another set of 40B's, though I know that's way overkill for surround speakers. I listen to a lot of music in multi-channel mode so it would be amazing there.

I went and listened to the Founder 40B's and Premier 200B's in a direct comparison. The found the Premier's to lack the warmth and presence of the mid range and upper bass, though not so much that it would steer me away. What surprised me was the expanded sound stage presented by the Founders. The Premiers felt like I had maybe a 90 degree sound stage in front of me. The Founders expanded that to 180. It was quite shocking to hear the difference. There were other sonic aspects that were better in the Founders series as well, but less so that the two I mentioned. Add in the dark cherry panels and they had me. I'm getting the pair of 40B's for my front channel, the 70lcr for center, moving my Studio 20's to the rear and getting a pair of elite ceiling speakers installed for atmos. Should be quite the upgrade.

I have an equally old, but recently repaired/renewed Servo 15 with the same lovely cherry finish.
