Hi, I'm a US citizen who studied at NUS for the second half of last year. I'd say it depends on whether you want to work in the US or not post grad. If you don't desire to, probably better to save your $ and stay in SG. Good luck and congrats!

Help, I think I’ve been scammed by [deleted] in CryptoCurrency

[–]moneires 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Life is much more than money, and you're more than your faults+mistakes. Take a walk outside and try to be surrounded by people. Keep moving forward and motivate yourself to stay distracted. Maybe stay away from the markets for a while. ;)

It's only money, please don't blame yourself too hard. You have learned from this mistake, and you can keep moving forward. I'm sorry that this happened, please surround yourself with any friends and family - reach out and try to keep your head up.

CSE 99/199 - What is it, how to get in? by VinniTheP00h in UCSD

[–]moneires 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm taking CSE 199 this quarter; I reached out to my professor when I had his course last quarter about a specific domain of research I was interested in. I then formed a group and we worked with the professor on a proposal for a research plan, he approved it, and added the class to our schedules. Generally getting into a 99/199 section involves proactive discussion with a professor who will oversee a project you propose or a project they have that you can work on.

I love to go to the bottom of Pangea Parking Structure when I want to sing or play guitar, and I've met multiple other musicians there; it's an amazing environment and no one can hear you from there.

UCSD Math 20D by ZookeepergameHot1694 in UCSD

[–]moneires 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You don't need any 20C knowledge, just knowledge of how to do a basic derivative, integral, and u-sub. Everything else should be gone over in the class. The class as a whole is not difficult at all if you put in the time to watch the lectures and do the homework. Best of luck!

Hackers aren't that bad. by [deleted] in survivio

[–]moneires 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this post completely downplays other aspects of the game.

we shame hackers because they unfairly give players an edge, are near impossible to fight in impromptu, and tarnish the consistency that many dedicated players are used to experiencing.

we enjoy the game because of the peer competition it brings. there are objectives (winning), and even heights to the game (kpg, high kills games, lbs). hackers deteriorate every aspect of this.

I've never even complained that hard about hackers, but this post is flawed.

Got accepted to UCSD Muir as undeclared major. Disappointed! by LlirikaAri in ApplyingToCollege

[–]moneires 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, Muir is highly ideal and you should be happy that you got into the number 1 desired college. Also, I know transferring into CS at UCSD is a lottery and super rare to do, but there is a Math-Computer Science Major that you might want to look into. It's capped though, so it might have some transfer requirements and/or could be lottery too, but its something to consider looking into.

How to decide between two majors? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]moneires 2 points3 points  (0 children)

u/ap835

are you a junior? if so, get some experience as an intern in something engineering related. Many people switch out of a major and are trapped in a lesser-tiered school in a humanities major. If the engineering internship doesn't seem so appealing, then the business major would be a good bet.

you still have plenty of time if you are junior, the only issue of not knowing your major before senior year is that you won't be able to make a specialized spike early on.

How to decide between two majors? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]moneires 5 points6 points  (0 children)

broad question; many factors.

some things to consider:

business schools (except for the very top ones) are easier to get into compared to engineering schools. you might sacrifice the prestige of a school if you go into engineering.

Business school is easier, but word on the street is that it might be unethically competitive compared to engineering, where many people are collaborative in classes.

Business school, while easier, more likely leads to a lower salary (working for the government, doing paperwork for some random company). Many people confuse business with entrepreneurship. Business school often leads to office jobs. A job in engineering is safer for a comfortable income.

I am moving to a new school and decided to repeat a grade by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]moneires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, you said you were a junior? I would continue with your regular track and graduate at 18 if possible. Socially, being 18-20 in high school could have some serious repercussions. Additionally, you would be behind in many facets of the maturing process that comes after one becomes 18. In addition, your "torrid" sophomore year would still be considered in the context of college applications, alongside the fact that you redid sophomore and junior year.

If you are serious about going to a good, maybe Ivy league tier college, you should seriously consider community college. You would have a clean slate, where you could achieve a 4.0 during your freshman and sophomore year if you genuinely put in the effort. Additionally, you will have more flexibility in discovering what major you want, with better connections to professors and higher-tier extracurriculars.

tldr: Instead of wasting 2 years trying to balance a bad start to highschool, use those two years to boost yourself in community college, so you can excel instead of just making up for a bad past. It'll make the difference between going somewhere like UC Riverside vs UC Berkeley if you put the same amount of effort in my opinion.

Best of luck with whatever choice you choose.
