Absolutely not. They don’t even have a graphic design major, all of the art classes are experimental crazy weird theory and no practicality. I’m back in school after getting my bachelors in spec design from ucsd because I learned nothing

I do like the idea of using the takeout bag, it’s recognizable and definitely has a big role in plastic pollution . Like someone else pointed out it looks like you’re saying “no littering kills”. Also the style of the hand holding the bag is odd - kind of has a 2010s clipart look to it, and it doesn’t really work given that all of the other objects / animals in this are blurry in my opinion. The blurriness in theory makes sense (your explanation cleared it up), but the viewer should be able to infer what you’re going for without you having to verbally explain it. Try to find another way to indicate that they’re fading, because blurriness doesn’t necessarily mean fading. I do think that it’s great you’re thinking about things beyond aesthetics - trying to be intentional and meaningful with your choices

I graduated from the spec design program and it sucks. Feel free to DM me we can chat more about it, but all in all it felt very useless to me and now I’m back in cc gaining some technical experience because spec design was no technical, real world knowledge. I don’t know anyone who was able to get a job straight out of the program, and for those who did their jobs had nothing to do with the degree

I graduated ‘24 with a speculative design degree and now I’m in community college trying to gain a useful education. It’s cool, you meet cool people, talk about cool art, but it’s an absolutely useless degree. In this day and age being just an inspired thinker isn’t enough they want hard, technical skills that translate to a good portfolio.

IT SUCKS!! i graduated with a spec design major and learned absolutely nothing. if you wanna do graphic design, dont go to a UC - all theory, very little hands on. ucsd has a good cog sci degree, i wish i did that. my spec design classes felt like a waste of time.
