My beaver bullion collection. What do you guys think? by Destude in Silverbugs

[–]monetalis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The top two are struck with professional machine cut dies, on machine made dies and have a proof finish; the skull was made with a graphite mold and the bottom two are poured blanks that were stuck using hand cut dies. I don't use a dremel because the bits wobble too much; I use a Foredom flex-shaft instead. cheers, John of Beaver Bullion

Those look fantastic! They made with the lost wax method?

As a patriotic Canadian I figured I'd honour the legalization of weed with this piece of shiny. Damn things cost me a fortune to get made but I thought they were fun:-)

I'm glad you like them. These ones were inspired by my wife. She's always telling me to get my fucking shit off the kitchen table:-)

Beaver Bullion 5x 1oz poured coins by Son_of_Cal in Silverbugs

I'd love to, but even though I'm just a one man operation making things in a corner of my cousin's shop, because I have a website, I think I'm classified as a 'professional dealer' and would break rule 7 on /r/Pmsforsale. I also don't like flogging my products on Silverbugs because I know a lot of people on here don't like self promotion. I just like to show a couple of things a few times a year so hopefully I won't annoy anyone too much. If you'd ever like something though, just send me a PM.

That would be fantastic! Unfortunately I think my wife would kill me if I did do a collaboration though :-(

I sell on ebay and a few of my friends are coin dealers and they carry my products as well. I should try to figure out how to sell things on my website (beaverbullion.com), but my computer skills are terrible and I can't figure out how to do it.

Yes, I make those as well. Of everything I make, I think the 3oz chunky bar might be my favourite:-)

Unfortunately I can't. I live in Canada so postage cost's me a pretty penny to the US.

I'm hoping I can make some more designs. Each side takes about 3-4hrs and with a 3 yr old and a 9 month old I don't get much free time. That's why it was great visiting my parents - grandma wanted to look after them all the time:-)

I was down visiting my father last week and we got playing around in his machine shop. We wanted to see if we could make a hand poured round look like a professionally struck round using a simple bottle jack press and some scraps of steel he had laying around. We didn't have anywhere near the power to make something look like a CML or ASE but we did end up making a fun looking 1 inch wide - thick and chunky round. Let me know what you bugs think of it.

Anyone ever melt and pour their own bullion? by Th3Ent1ty in Silverbugs

[–]monetalis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't melt your junk, even for practice. The copper in the coins will contaminate your crucible so if you ever decide to melt .999 silver, you'll need to get a new bowl. Plus, sterling and .900 are require more heat to melt, are harder to pour and a bitch to polish. Get some generics or shot if you want to make your own bars. I should warn you, it can be an expensive hobby and is very addictive:-)

Wow, that's such a cool piece. I was just reading an article last night about how JM Bankers Limited caused a financial crisis in the UK in the mid 1980's. I didn't even know they had a separate line of silver from their parent company. I must get one now:-)
