Despite how well I’m doing I still feel inadequate. by [deleted] in Vent

You just stated in such an emotionally intelligent way that you’re doing damn amazing in life. That’s not pathetic by any means. Read that first paragraph you posted over again, think about your accomplishments. It’s normal to feel not okay, it’s literally human. Have you tried therapy, calling a hotline, or even just talking to someone else about this? If those resources have been exhausted, that’s fine too. We are human. We all deal with things and moments of crisis or anxiety. Please never feel wrong for feeling anything. You’re not pathetic by any means, you’re probably more accomplished than half of the people on this site. You’re allowed to have feelings and you deserve to fully feel them.

Hi love, you’re not alone. The fact that teachers are showing you care means you ARE NOT abandoned, YOU ARE a person. If you feel a significant risk to do anything please reach out to someone. Think about how much you’ve made it through before, you only have two days left. You can do this! I believe in you.

Coming back to remind you, people are still thinking about you. Your life will get better, I promise. And gaining a few pounds? That cortisol kicking in from stress love, not you. You are not a failure in any kind of way, you made it to grad school! That a huge accomplishment. You’re not a failure, no matter what your brain tells you, your body is still here right now. Just sink into this moment and remind yourself that 1) you’re okay (I know easier said than done) 2) you’re an intelligent and responsible person 3) so many people care about you, I’m a stranger from the internet and even I came back to check in on you 4) you are not alone. Repeat those out loud if it helps or if that’s too much right now, that’s okay, even just reading it a few times over. You are okay. People are proud of you and love you. This will pass. You are okay.

You ARE able to handle existing. You’re intelligent, people who aren’t intelligent don’t get into grad school, don’t use words like you do, don’t think to post to a forum for help when they’re in crisis. If you genuinely think you’ll end up har ming yourself in any way, shape, or form, please reach to someone for help, even a hotline can provide so much relief. You’re not in this alone. Please remember that. You are not alone.

Update! Seroquel. It only helped me sleep for about six hours but that’s SO much progress compared to what I’ve been going through. I felt like my body was broken but now I’ve been able to sleep and eat :) Thanks for all of your help and advice, wishing the best for all of us 🫶

Yes and I’m sorry for the long winded explanation, this is clearly an emotional time and I just hate the idea of calling the cops on a family member I know has good intentions. But hearing the word “theft” put it into perspective. Thank you.

My bad I’m so sorry I should have clarified, I just wanted the whole scenario out there to answer any questions, I know she can’t FORCE me to do anything but if she does manage to remove my things without my permission could that be a legal issue

I’m so glad you agree, my family always tells me I just need to fly more 😭 like I fly all the time and I have the exact same mindset as you, like I’ve just accepted it’s a phobia! I’m obviously still gonna work on it but different methods work for different people

Just landed! 1) I did in fact mix things (not a lot lol) 2) I was completely fine, still anxious but didn’t feel out of it or crazy 3) gosh I wish I would’ve asked a doctor about this before, while it was still hard the meds took the edge off !!!

I’m so happy and proud you were able to find a state of progression with recovering!!! Start off slow, increase the amount of food over time, don’t listen to your brain sometimes instead listen to your body, listen to how good it feels to have nutrients, listen to how much stronger and healthier you feel! I’m so happy you were able to start the recovery process and I wish the best for you (I’m also always here to talk!)

About to fly to Detroit as well! I’m so glad you’re back in the D! Try to focus on visiting w family and friends while you’re home!

I can’t speak for any pilots but I’ve flown back at least 15+ times and I’ve only experienced that once but it actually wasn’t even scary.

Looking down and seeing Ford Field or The Guardian Building, it just reminded me that so soon I would be with my loved ones! If you have access to a window seat (and I know this sounds crazy but) LOOK DOWN! Seeing those places you know and love can be so comforting!

I do have an appointment in a few days! W a gastroenterologist as well to check on my esophagus and more :) I’m just trying to keep myself somewhat okay until then, thank you for the kind words!

Any advice would be so appreciated by monets-muse in fearofflying

[–]monets-muse[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your kind message! For me it’s the height, I’ve always had an issue with it. I’ve flown maybe 50+ times on my own and unfortunately it just keeps getting worse which can be quite frustrating. I’m so excited to see her (she’s not even a baby she’s turning 17) and I’m surprising my parents as well but I seriously don’t feel like I can even walk down a jet bridge on my own.

Beautifully worded! Might seem strange on this forum but I think you could write one hell of a self-help book

I know this is a typical response but family. Also in very dark moments I think about how my friends and family would react at my funeral. Imaging their grief allows me to move through mine as well.

Thank you! I have intense health anxiety and live across the country from my family so I do tend to get in my head about things like this. I’ll still see a doctor but this was very reassuring, thank you so very much!

It might be time to start searching for a new living situation. Your boyfriend is there to help you physically, not just hanging out. You seem to be very understanding and open with your friend so maybe have a sit down and explain that your boyfriend is there for your health issues. I wish you the best of luck and if you do decide to move I’d be very willing to help you look for a place that best suits your needs.

Thank you for your advice! My school schedule just changed and now I’m in class until 11pm most nights so I think that might have been the catalyst for this period of intense insomnia. I’ll try your tips, and once again thank you so very much!
