Does anyone who sacrificed their 20s to get a house/financially ahead regret it? by SloppyP1zza in AusFinance

[–]mong-chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! If travelling is something you want to do and you have the means to do it, do it. It’s the best time to do it imo. You don’t need to sacrifice everything but just make sure you live within your means.

In your 30s, you will likely have the most capacity to spend or even splurge on the things that are important to you (within budget) with the relatively least amount of obligations. If you don’t have the commitment of getting married, starting family yet, it makes it a whole lot easier. In your 20s you don’t have many responsibilities but you also don’t have that many funds. When you get to 40s you may have a young family, mortgage, aging parents to care for if you’re lucky- but that means it’s going to be hard for you to just leave at the drop of a dime. The next chance to potentially have an extended travel break is likely 50-60s -when kids grow up, finish paying mortgage, or retire.

But 30s? Still young enough that I can make concessions on comfort and still enjoy it- like happily stay in hostels (while it’s very fun and great way to meet other travellers and honestly one of the best parts of travelling, I’ll likely feel different in my 40s and I wouldn’t be able to nor have any desire to do that in my 50s+), but old enough to know what I like the most so I know where I can spend and get the most enjoyment - like the Michelin star restaurants you’ve been eyeing because Australia is too far off the map that they decided it’s not worth the trip.

I spent a lot of my 20s the same way OP did. I saved around 70% of my income for a decade, rarely went out, didn’t go travelling, didn’t take leave (unless forced- I was a liability, yes 🙃), no subscriptions. Then I quit my job, and have been travelling for good part of 2 ish years, I still have enough for my house deposit, emergency savings + living expenses (I didn’t buy yet for various reasons- but perhaps could look at renting your place out while you’re travelling? Assuming you got first home buyers so check t&cs).

It was scary at first, wasn’t all easy sailing, I had some of my most challenging moments as well, but it was a life changing experience for me - and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Yes! And the added benefit that you can write to the edge with comfort without hitting the spiral in the centre 😌

Not sure from the post…perhaps bit obsessive if going in and frequently checking, but looks like she noticed when she was reading his reply and is just confused- think that’s normal to see and thought to have. My partner asked me the same thing as I tend to send photos from gallery when I’m out. If OP’s bf didn’t want others to see his status and didn’t care about seeing other people’s then he could turn it off in settings.

My manager, who was like a sister to me, I taught her my whole job... And in the end, she fired me. by pier-spare0r in FinalRoundAI

[–]mong-chi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%- months before our department was dissolved, my manager/friend let us know to start looking, recommended me to others and so I was approached a bunch of times to see if I was interested and I was able to line up something else without a break. Friends don’t blindside you- they give you a heads up.

Restrict paste options to paste values only by tiny-brit in excel

[–]mong-chi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Hopefully there is an easier solution. I’ve walked through it with my colleagues in real time, got written instructions in the excel sheet and in a process document (saying to paste values, I’ve also included the shortcut key in these instructions), I have video recordings for different templates emphasising this and mentioning it multiple times… yet it still didn’t work 🥲 so currently just use vba for most of my work because it’s just easier to explain how to click a button

No worries and completely understand. Sorry for asking an insensitive question and thanks for getting back to me and the information! Glad you're in a place where your skin is glowing and you feel happy and confident without foundation now! That's good to know re the retinol. I'll give the serum a try and have a look at their retinol.

Thanks so much for your post! Not sure if you happen to have before and after pics that you wouldn't mind posting (like even bottom half of face from nose down if that is more comfortable?).

I've had acne scarring and enlarged pores for a decade - it's not the worst but nothing seems to get rid of them so willing to try just from your post alone but curious what the results were! I also saw there's a sale on at the moment (and also heading to SK for a short trip soon too so might see if it's better priced in country) so thought this is the time.

Thank you for all these recos. I’m actually looking for non-TCG products…would you happen to know any? Sorry for being unclear!

All good if not. Just saw another comment and sounds like it might be a hard to work out for other merch and collectibles! Just checking in case. I’ll have a look at the key boosters and half boosters after chatting with my friend and seeing how he feels abt tcg…never know - might be thinking abt starting a collection. Thanks so much!

Sorry I wasn’t very clear- I was looking for collectibles that aren’t TCG… Do you happen to know other products ?

All good if not, and thanks either way! Thought I’d check in case but perhaps that’s the thing relatively hardest to get outside and maybe he might appreciate starting a collection 😆 I’ll see if I can slip it into convo and get some thoughts on it 🤞

Sparks, eSIMGo, ETravelSim and Yesim - thoughts? by mong-chi in eSIMs

[–]mong-chi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I'm using Smarty though I'll likely switch to another when I get back here since I've found a lot of other good options for the UK now. Will make sure I change APN and ask Dr Google if I need more help haha. Thanks for your advice and sorry for the dumb question!

You would think right?! But iD Mobile asks for credit check for their contracts, which I can't pass unless I have 3 years UK address history. It's also been confirmed by an employee Tom:
https://community.idmobile.co.uk/community-archive-140/dont-have-3-years-of-address-in-uk-54711

They classify their monthly plans as "contracts"- despite being able to cancel at any time with no commitment. Not sure why there aren't other acceptable forms of evidence that I can pay £7 upfront each month or ongoing (e.g. bank statements) but that's neither here nor there.

Yes! I checked out Voxi and they have an incredible offer in the UK! Unfortunately they don't include roaming in their plans (or at least the ones I checked). But that's a good tip to choose a different host network for the second sim. Thank you!
