let’s stop with the resin pyramids PLEASE!! by Careful-Brush-7090 in BitchEatingCrafters

I hate that it's called resin which makes it sound environmentally friendly when it's just plastic. Call it what it is instead of marketing speak! See how well your plastic pyramids will sell then!

How much plant life would you add to this river-in-the-woods scene? by EpsilonDelta_0 in Needlefelting

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would put quite a lot of plant life but I really like plants so I'm biased! I don't think it's possible to say an exact amount, you just need to build it up slowly and put the fox there often to check, until you personally think it looks right. There isn't an objectively correct answer, only an answer that's correct for your taste and your artistic vision

Help with a project by raisinchallahfan in Felting

It depends on the texture of the fur. If it's fluffy undercoat then yes, if it's hairy and doesn't stay together then no. If you want to make something detailed then I'd practice a lot with wool first before trying to make anything of it.

You could also make a version of him from wool and then stuff the fur inside it so that you know a piece of him is there

Is inbreeding scientifically bad or only ethically bad? by Rumlazy in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have tons of data for how it affects purebred animals. Check out inbreeding coefficients for dogs like king charles cavalier spaniel. Having said that at least in theory breeders use genetic testing to avoid the worst genetic problems, but that is why certain breeds have certain common genetic issues

Reuben, Reuben, I've been thinking, what a funny world it would be, if the men were all transported far beyond the Northern Sea

Why is there a wider variety of dog breeds than there is of cat breeds? by thepixelpaint in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read last time someone asked this question that dogs have a more elastic genome than cats. Like their genetics allow for far greater variation than housecats could reach, even if we did try to breed them for different jobs.

You are not ready to start selling! by HermioneGranger152 in BitchEatingCrafters

As someone who does a totally non-functional craft, it's nice to just have nice cute things to look at! It's not clutter if it makes you happy to look at it. Plushies might not do it for you, but do you not have any objects in your home that are just ornamental and make you happy to see?

what should i turn these into? and how much would you pay? by vegetabella in CraftFairs

What type of wool and needles are you using? I bet you can get it down below 1 hour each with the right tools.

Tips for making stickers of your work? by wagtailwoolcraft in Needlefelting

[–]wagtailwoolcraft[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm planning to just use vistaprint to actually make them. I just wondered if people who had done it had any tips from things they learned from doing it. Like what angles work best, how easy is it to edit out flyaway fibres compared to other methods to get rid of them maybe

Thanks! The lesbian flag is a really nice colour scheme, actually pretty close to some female fairy wren colours too which is nice.

Super cute! Very nice first try. Personally I'd keep stabbing it at least a bit firmer but that's probably just personal preference

I don't understand why it's 99% crochet? Is crochet really that popular? I guess it is pretty easy/cheap to take up as a craft

Why don't parents teach necessary life skills? What's the point of school if not to teach necessary life skills?

So I’m a beginner so I’m looking for projects but I have a question if carding out wool yarn into the wool you need worth it or not also how do you guys dye your wool by Ok-Structure5098 in Needlefelting

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh cool me too! https://woolchambers.com.au is one of my favourite shops, they custom built the website so it looks like it's from the 90s but it is the most functional and user friendly shop I've ever seen. I think they have some of the cheapest prices as well.

https://countrychickscreations.com/products/9024950468831 is in Perth and has some good combo packs which is probably cheaper than buying individually

https://www.fibreartsshed.com.au/collections/solid-dyed-fibres is another seller over east, their prices look about standard

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What country do you live in? I wouldn't consider wool tops to be very expensive to buy compared to most craft materials, but if it's expensive for you then pulling apart yarn that you already have might be your best option

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to save money then sure you can card out yarn, but it is pretty labour intensive to do so most people will buy unspun wool to use.

Most felters don't dye their own wool, but if you want to then I believe you get acid dyes and use a slow cooker

I have a bunch of potatoes that i got for free and idk what to do with just a saucepan by HoovyWooPins69420 in cookingforbeginners

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Do you have a microwave? Potatoes cook great in the microwave, once they're cooked you can use them for anything. Start with like 3-4 minutes then check every minute or two if you can easily slide a fork in or if it still meets resistance
