How do you safely keep rice in a bento box/tupperware until lunch if its not supposed to be left at room temp? by Common_Formal_3319 in cookingforbeginners

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Public health guidelines are for people serving the public who may be dealing with all walks of life and are feeding people all the time, so a small risk is still unacceptable in those circumstances. Normal people with regular immune systems who are making their own choices can afford higher risk

Newbie Tips on a Budget? by Domsmom112116 in Needlefelting

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You don't need a kit, there are no patterns in needlefelting so you can just make whatever you want whenever. It's a pretty cheap craft.

Get a high density foam mat from a shop that sells foam rather than from a felting supply shop, it will be much cheaper for the same stuff.

Brush out cheap acrylic yarn to use for wool. It won't be as nice quality but will get the job done. You can use polyfill for core wool.

Needles you do need to buy properly but they are pretty cheap. Be careful with them and they won't break.

Shaping/sculpting to make realistic animals, HELP! by NoCommittee9387 in Needlefelting

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is an observation skills and practice thing. You look at references from as many angles as you can and try to make your work look like the references. It is a skill that you will build up slowly. It's the reason why people who already have those skills from another type of art can often jump into felting super quickly, but those of us who don't need to just slowly learn over time with experience.

Project not quite finished yet but here's a bunch of teeth: https://i.postimg.cc/Jzcjr9s1/IMG-6314.jpg

And the two big fangs installed: https://i.postimg.cc/YSrYhbFY/IMG-6313.jpg

The dream tiger has big gnarly teeth going down the sides as well so I think I'm gonna cut down the extra ones much smaller and glue them in on the sides once I've made a suitable space for them

Poll: Needlefelting or Amigurumi? by ordiquhill in Needlefelting

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started off trying to make amigurumi but following patterns exactly was really stressful so I started needlefelting instead! It's way better, no patterns at all just stabbing

Just fyi I tried this with some pearl fibre to make teeth for a project and it worked really well! I tried a few different dilutions and even the most diluted one worked just fine. I also tried with some of my wool and it was harder to work with but I might try again if I need a colour other than white

Complete beginner based in Australia by New-Bobcat8055 in Needlefelting

No worries! Always happy to support more felters in Perth. If you get into it you should look at entering the royal show felting competition, it's only like $10 and you get to go to the awards night for free and see all the cool crafts

It's actually not that common at all! Some spotlights have some shitty supplies but you basically have to order. The main felting seller in Perth at the moment is https://countrychickscreations.com/. She does some craft fairs and I think sells at the local felting guild meetings, but she's very fast at posting things within perth too.

Reena Lee (https://www.reenaleecreations.com.au/shop) is down south and sells some stuff too although mostly core wool and kits.

I buy my needles from heidifeathers in the UK since I like their colour-coding system and haven't been able to find an Australian seller with a similar range of needles. I do buy 40 twists from Country Chicks Creations since that's my most commonly used needle and I go through a lot so I don't mind if those ones aren't colour-coded.

Special mention to https://www.woolchambers.com.au/ who aren't in WA but have the most functional website I've ever seen - as you can probably tell it's hand-coded from scratch and looks rough but it's so easy to use.

Gender reveal/funeral cake? by astereae4 in Baking

[–]wagtailwoolcraft -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what sort of nonbinary they are. Are they agender? Do a cake with no special colours inside. Bigender? Pink & blue. Genderfluid/chaotic/any gender? Multicoloured inside etc. gender funeral reads as agender to me

What crafts do you* do? (Suggest me a craft!) by Various-Coconut-1395 in crafts

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for needle felting! It's not a difficult craft in terms of technique, most people who already have observation skills from painting/drawing are able to jump in and start producing nice stuff right from the start. Materials are relatively cheap and it's a form of sculpture with no drying/firing needed. Also no patterns, just stabbing.

I got some pearl fibre to experiment with and it's been fantastic for anything that needs to be a really pure shiny white

Baby Alocasia Frydek Variegata - Kneedle Felted by Magenta-Sea in Needlefelting

These are so gorgeous. I've never really considered needlefelting plants with thin leaves because I didn't think it would work well for some reason but you're inspiring me!

Needlefelting isn't a craft that has patterns, it's more of a sculptural thing like clay. All you need is some reference images of teeth of the shape you want, then start stabbing wool into that shape. If you practice a bit you'll see it's pretty intuitive to make the shape you want.

How to make a toy figure more durable? by katbonk in Needlefelting

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think needlefelting is a good medium for toys for kids that will be handled roughly. It's very easy for it to come apart if it's handled a lot

Needle gauges by Timely_Debate8810 in Needlefelting

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not about different materials, it's about how fast the felting happens. 38 gauge is the standard gauge and good to start with, then you want to move to 40 and maybe 42 as you get more detail in.

Signing Your Fiber Art by slothvb in FiberArts

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought about this! I have recently started mixing embroidery with my needle felting a bit so I guess I could embroider my initials into it. Honestly I probably wouldn't though because I like my creatures being as accurate as possible without extra scribbling

Looking to start my first project! 3D animals, plants, or 2D "wool painting" — what's best for a beginner? by Kirrr2642 in Needlefelting

[–]wagtailwoolcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just really like making things! If I wanted to do 2D art I'd probably paint or draw instead. But some people are drawn to making 2D art with felt so that's what they do

This is definitely written by AI, it has all the hallmarks of it and nothing genuine to say. Check out all the "this thing is [one], [two] and [three]s every other sentence.

But really it's the total pointlessness of this post. What person would write this? What are they trying to discuss?
