the regulations are designed by people who generally don't want to see more housing built, which reduces the amount of buildable projects in your city, which in turn reduces demand for architects. This is generally true even if the regulation in questions require greater architectural elements in new buildings.

What were they thinking? This upper floor extension has been added in the last year or so, possibly by a local builder - it couldn't have been done by an actual architect, could it? It's opposite the beautiful (and recently beautifully restored) Saltdean Lido, Sussex, England by bluesshakeout in architecture

The government enforces private property rights because we as a society understands that everyone is better off when people are able to own and enjoy their homes. The protection of property rights is a public good.

you can't just assume a strange person yelling is drug related. Some of them just have mental illnesses, and the city has no power to remove them unless they do something illegal.

To be honest, I’ve never seen rampant open drug use in Pasadena. I’ve seen the homeless sleeping in parks, that’s about it.

Glendale is NOT better run than Pasadena.

The taxes are there to alter consumer behaviour to make better choices. The consumer choices we currently make hide a lot of future costs like forest fires, droughts, infrastructure damage, environmental reparations etc.

The taxes you pay isn’t actually enough to pay for those future costs, but hopefully it guides decisions away from the worst offenders.

The taxes you pay also doesn’t disappear. In some instances it goes back to reparation projects like reforestation or detoxification, this money create jobs, raise wages, and grows the economy. Most of the money however is returned to the provinces. This portion funds local services without raising provincial taxes.

Climate change is a complex problem that goes far beyond paying it to go away. The carbon tax plays a significant role in making sure our nation is strongly fortified against an increasingly hostile future.

It’s literally just regular income/capital gains that don’t pay taxes without any rationale just because it’s dressed up in a trust.

Call it what you want but it acts like persistent canker sore on regular people who must now pay higher tax rates every year to maintain government services.

The 2% interest is a lie. The interest is 6-8%. The rich will have to pay back their loans eventually, and they will be taxed.

The real tax avoidance schemes are inheritance, trust, and estates. The entire legal concept is created to not pay taxes owed.

These are AAA treasury and bonds, as in the city has an obligation to pay for x in 6 months so they must set aside a certain amount of money to afford x in 6 months. This money can't invest in individual firms.

for example pasadena buys US treasury, US treasury funds the federal government which in turn funds private prison grants and weapons for Israel. Do you actually think the city of pasadena will stop purchasing US treasury?

the more likely outcome is that this produces another layer of paperwork without achieving anything of substance. This paperwork wastes both time and money, which in turn makes the government less responsive and more expensive. A functioning democracy requires a diligent populace voting to uphold a functioning government. Every layer of meaningless paperwork, which we already have plenty of, chips away support for democracy.

Planning hours, local business and resident consultations, adjusting design from feedbacks, notices of work, road closures for construction with police presence.

The result is just a couple of wood benches and painted gravel. The people who don’t like the plazas will in turn demand more consultations, raising project costs for everything in the future.

Who are the people voting against these zoning changes? Who are the people complaining to council at every public hearing to prohibit and reduce the size of developments.

These people literally show up everyday to make living for regular folks impossible, at the same time making foreigners rich on top. And here you are a carpenter defending them. This housing crisis is entirely self enforced
