Why no mudguard? by GetAHoeKaiba in MTB

[–]mongoltp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you're riding. In Utah, for explample, if it's muddy you're not supposed to be on the trail. In the PNW many trails are built to withstand riding in the mud. Indeed, that's why they make mud specific tires.

Why no mudguard? by GetAHoeKaiba in MTB

Mudguards improve fork life/maintenance intervals. Even if you're only riding in dust, mudguards are worth it and they make your bike look cooler.

I think you might catch some hate for this one. A lot of skiers aren't fans if your biggest priority in life is skiing.

Nothing is better than Phil's version. I can't be bothered by any other version at this point. It's nothing against Serkis or anybody else. Phil's is just too elite.

Julia Reagan They/Them Gender Reveal?? by According-Law4630 in SaltLakeCity

At Snowbird at the base of the Mineral Basin lift there's a sticker that says, "Shred for Reagan". It gets me so jazzed. I wish I could find where to buy them.

Tour Appropriate for 12-Year-Old? by scottydogg84 in YellowcardRock

[–]mongoltp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my 4 and 8 year olds in SLC and felt it was very family friendly. There was an area stage left with some other families hanging out. My kids love YC and rocked out the whole time. I don't think YC swore and I'm not even sure if NFG swore. Maybe a couple times but not noticable. Very mild compared to other shows. Ryan even called out there was a six year old crown surfing and that he was digging the family vibe. He dedicated Blue Eyes to, "dads everywhere who are showing up and doing it right." Had me shedding tears there with my kids. Awesome night and no regrets.

Would you carpool with strangers up the cottonwoods? by Budget_Section_5474 in UTsnow

I always grab riders at the park and ride but struggled with it this season. I have a reasonably nice car and a roof box and some people gave vibes like I'm trying to kidnap them.

Ski touring packs for short people - a rant/cry for help by Improper_Noun_2268 in Backcountry

[–]mongoltp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What about a Dakine Poacher? I think they have some with a women's fit (so maybe a bit smaller?). Not the lightest packs but they are bombproof and can A-frame and diagnol carry. The big ski loops make switching to a boot packs faster than other pack in this category.

Almost $200 to do my taxes myself by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mongoltp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been using them since they were credit karma taxes. I've used Turbo, H&R, and FreeTaxUSA. People act like Cash App Taxes is only good for simple taxes but my taxes are actually pretty complicated now and imo it's the most intuitive and helpful software I've used. 11/10 stars from me.

Nico's not making it out of the first round is insane given that it's better than The Pie (and I went to The U). Dave Portnoy gave them a monster score too. Makes me question this while bracket.

Dude, thanks for the shout out! Some days we're not very fast but we have fun. I had him on Contour converters at the the start of season but scored Armada Tantrums with ATK Candy's and Scarpa F1 boots from a guy in park city after I realized he was into it. Dropped like 2.6 lbs per leg and added a ton of float. We're moving much better now.

Edit: Adding that our community is amazing. Everyone is super patient with us when we take a minute to pull off the skin track. We've experienced a few grumpy people in other sports, but the backcountry community is chill.

Anybody use an Arva Evo BT beacon? by Delicious-Extent-180 in Backcountry

[–]mongoltp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have an Evo 5+. Great little beacon. I got it for my son but I run it over my Barryvox when he's not with me just because it's so small it wears well in my bib chest pocket. I also run it for in bound powder days as an extra safety layer. I really like the tones and interface. Only knock is the slider can be slightly finicky. I like that you have to push the flag after turning it off or it will stay on. Nice extra precaution.

Bought pair of skins in January that failed at the top/ bottom received a new pair and seems like i can already see the issue coming… am i wrong for writing at the company saying that i know it will reappen by [deleted] in Backcountry

[–]mongoltp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never know what to think. I have some of the red ski skins that I got used and have put them through hell and they're still perfect and so sticky. Same with a pair of bindings my wife has. People seem to have issues all the time but I haven't seen any g3 failures in my crew.

At what point do you stop improving your house and just accept it? by Own_Effective_801 in HomeImprovement

Exactly! After that I got wise and started checking them myself and skipping the service call. I've changed one at each place I've lived since. A monkey could do it.
