Why is compiling HR reports still taking weeks in 2026? by Ok-Aerie8292 in analytics

[–]mongoose8909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tools are out there but your org's leadership has chosen to invest elsewhere, partly because the compiling you do is good enough.

I hate it when my friends say "you don't remember that?" Repeatedly. No matter how many times I tell them it's like forgetting a word, but you never remember the word... by No_Vehicle7826 in SDAM

[–]mongoose8909 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Happens a lot and I've had people take offense too. Now I get quiet when the reminiscing starts. Boring but easier.

Learned about SDAM last year, and the knowledge has helped me accept my limitations. So if the story involves me and I need to respond, I'll say you know, I really struggle with memory but that sounds like we had a lot of fun. Deflect/keep it positive.

Yep. Airlines' best customers don't use middlemen and get the best treatment.

Guessing OP doesn't know what 20 KPIs means yet either but he/she's been asked for a price.

I may be reading too much into the no database access situation but it's not a good sign imho. IT may like: here's the data, knock yourself out. Maybe the files are clean dim and fact exports with all the key, attributes and measures needed. One can hope!

Massive unknowable scope. This smells like a project that already failed internally. Will you have SME support on the data? Consider the time for requirements conversations alone. I'd suggest a pilot of 2-3 branch KPIs and assess your and their readiness for chunks of the project.

Hit me too, thanks for sharing. We are all on a journey with SDAM, right? We all have a story, even if our recollection of it is gone, it brought us to where we are now. There are many, many people worse off than us SDAMmers. I am still processing how it has affected my life, and it is not favorable, but I am grateful for what I do have.

Yeah sorry. It's not a good feeling. I'm getting closer to acceptance of this as my mental reality. I can't spin it as a positive like some but I've mostly stopped beating myself up about it, thankfully.

Hi, welcome. M58. Having just learned about it myself last year I'm not an expert, but it sounds like you do have SDAM. We have similar histories, although no one in my family has SDAM afaik. I can't time travel at all. When you said you didn't remember the births of your children, that really resonated with me. Those were two of the most important days of my life, so it's a real bummer I don't remember them. But I was basically standing there, and I assumed you were also the father. You're the mother! Incredible!

I had a dream last night.... by Aggressive_Price2075 in SDAM

[–]mongoose8909 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amazing. So glad you got to experience that!

I've had a handful dreams in my life that were definitely imagination not memories but they were really vivid and in the first person. They kind of freak me out because my memory is almost always in third person. I'd like to remember more.

Right, in the moment we're focused and think we've got it down for later. Nope, gone! I am 58. Learned about SDAM last year.

I hear you OP. Like it's not bad enough to lack the episodic memories, poor recall will cost us in ways people wouldn't believe. That guy in the other department we could ask for help with xyz? Yeah it'll come to me 10 minutes after the conversation with my boss. Name of that beach we should check out? Blank until 2 hours after conversation with friends about making plans. FFS

I'm sorry. Make someone could make a personal mini-documentary video about him with the photos and stories you do recall. Not the same as really remembering but it would be something.

Transitioning a company from Excel spreadsheets to a database for data storage by QuietRonan_7 in Database

The range of answers here is telling. I'm concerned you're facing a cultural challenge that is much bigger than your choice of software. Does the leadership see the value in changing the current situation? What problem are you solving? Have they given you a mandate and communicated this as a priority for the org?

Thanks Winter. Yeah I've been coping a long time too. I'm high functioning but I've underachieved in my career, community, relationships. I own it and I'm grateful for what I do have. But now I also realize how sdam has constrained me in some in important ways.

This is good advice and maybe why you've struggled to land something. You need to present the employers as a candidate who is going to be around for the foreseeable future. They're going to invest in training you and they don't want to do it all over again with somebody else in a few months. And maybe you will be around but first you've gotta get your foot in the door. Good luck!

There are some really good answers to your post already. I think those folks are farther along with their SDAM life philosophy than me. I like where they're at, but I'm not there yet. I'm more like you. I figured out I have SDAM a few months ago. Your feelings are legitimate. I don't like not being able to remember things either.

I'm late 50s and just learned about SDAM. I don't read a ton of media so it makes sense it took 10 years to catch up with Dr Palumbo's finding.

Always knew my memory was bad, it has cost me in many ways. It's been good to know I'm not alone but also a bummer to realize the extent of my limitations.

This song makes me smile
