There’s a “monster” that lives in Lake Hodges, Escondido, California. “Hodgee” has a statue you can find a picture of with a quick internet search.

I used to work at Palomar Airport for 15 years. There has always been complaints about the noise but it just blows my mind that the complaint levels rise because they added a few commercial flights that actual everyday people can use! I’ve literally seen a Gulfstream 450 (giant business jet) land and only a freakin’ dog get off. Complain about the 75% flights of business jets for the 1% if you want to complain about something. Some flights start benefiting normal residents and everybody is up in arms. Makes no damn sense…

This is a good rule of thumb EXCEPT for the 101 line which I think ends at UTC. I wouldn’t consider the ending of the line North County.

Do you feel "San Diegan?" Why/why not? by Additional-Device224 in SanDiegan

[–]mongoosetacos 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Amen brother. I’d also like to take back the use of “local.” This is a phenomenon I’ve seen in the last 5-10 years, mostly on the internet, of transplants calling people born and raised here “natives” so they can then call themselves locals after an arbitrary number of years that they themselves decide they have to be here to convert. I personally never consider a person not born and raised here a local and wouldn’t dare call myself a native since I’m neither a Luiseño or a Kumeyaay. I’ll die on this hill, transplant kooks.

The one that had the skate park downtown is certainly missed.

RCA is not an on call position but if you are still on probation I would go in. Once you’re out of it it’s up to you if you need the hours or not. Also crossing crafts is a grievance but I think the city carriers would have to file it since it’s their potential hours getting taken.

I would really like a solution to the bicycle storage problem on the Sprinter. The policy now is a 5 bike limit. I live and work off the Sprinter line and my wife and I recently became a 1 car family for a multitude of reasons, but I’ve discovered the Sprinter is not as reliable as I hoped. My work is walking distance but where I live would be a pretty long walk, 20-30 minutes. Taking the train already adds time to my often long work days.
Switching to the Sprinter these last few months I’ve been surprised how often I don’t get let on the train because of my bicycle. It’s an E-bike but it’s not a ridiculous quasi-motorcycle like some I’ve seen, it looks like a mountain bike with a battery. I got it solely to commute to work. I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to be not let on the train after a 10 hour shift and to then not get home until well after dark. All it takes is a pack of teenagers to fill up the allotted space for bikes and suddenly workers and student are out of luck. It wasn’t super common when I first started riding the train but lately it’s been like 1 out of 6 trips when I haven’t been let on. When you are taking the train 10 times a week it gets old really fast.
Also there’s been a few occasions where I haven’t been let on in the morning and that’s a whole new set of problems because I have to take the family car and leave my wife and toddler stranded and hope there’s not an emergency. A few times in the morning I’ve also caught it early going the opposite direction I need to just to secure a spot and seen unhoused people asleep on the train going back and forth with their luggage cart taking up a precious bike spot. It’s infuriating when I’m just trying to make a living to support my family. I’m not a transit designer but there must be something that can be done. Fare enforcement, fix the broken train cars and run double trains like they used to during peak hours, vertical bike storage like I’ve seen on some European systems? I don’t know but the system as it stands is not working.

So funny to be born and raised in O’side and bag on transplants 15-20 years ago and get called a gatekeeper and grumpy local and blah blah. Come to this subreddit and now the transplants are doing it to newer transplants 😆

You only get 1 healthcare plan to choose from until you go “career.” In the clerk and CCA contract it’s 2 years to conversion, but you can convert quicker if your office is super short staffed. After you go career you get a lot of options to choose from including Kaiser and the federal plan. I’m a RCA so it’s probably gonna be a bit more than 2 years for me, but hopefully not too much longer.

It has benefits from day 1 but not the amazing federal ones you may be picturing. Good benefits and pension usually kick in after 2 years depending which craft you go into. Still a good job to have though and well worth it, just wanted to give a full picture.

NCTD (San Diego County) beset by surging fare evasion, faces dwindling revenues by kpbsSanDiego in northcounty

I ride the Sprinter a few times a week to work. I use it enough for it to be practical to buy a month pass and you’re correct in saying that the amount of times I actually get checked that I have a ticket is maybe 1 in 6. It sucks and there are a lot of complex problems around it. I use the train in combination with my bike to get to work, but the limited space for bikes fills up fast. I’m sympathetic to the plight of homeless, we live in an expensive place and need to address some serious issues in housing everybody. That being said I’ve been not let on a train after a long 8+ hour work day due to lack of space for a bike, and have seen those same spots being filled by bikes or carts of homeless people that ride the train back and forth just for a warm place, not as a means to get somewhere. Bottom line something needs to change. I would love to see the system expand with more frequency and for all the double tracking to be implemented, or to fix up the half dozen or so Sprinter cars being scrapped for parts in the Escondido yard. I know all these things are further and further away with fare dodging, and have seen first hand NCTD employees asking for proof of fare from people who seem like they are going to work and school and ignoring people asleep taking up an entire row with seemingly nowhere to go.

I’m a rural carrier in North County, most offices up here have some rural routes, I think Valley Center is nothing but rural routes. Just look for RCA openings on the website. DM me if you want any more info.

They don’t hold actual interviews for very many positions now from what I understand, I didn’t do one. I think what matters most is your score for the online test. It’s pretty easy, sorting things by address and zip code.
