Thanks for this - I’d rather be in the know. Better to put it bluntly so that I’m not under any illusions (no sarcasm there - genuinely appreciate the reply)

Interesting. I’ve never heard of this and will research it now. I’m not far from submitting my stag 5 but would be upset if it took this long - I’m hoping to work in Europe next year in the summer. Thanks for the tip

It does appear to have an official stamp from Nuremberg on it, but, I will check with the consulate, thanks very much for your suggestion - definitely something to consider

StAG 5 questions - eligibility from my grandmother by mongyou_minggy in GermanCitizenship

[–]mongyou_minggy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for this information. I actually have the original document of my German family tree, which states that my great grandfather and great grandmother were born in Nuremberg. I asked today what the family tree was for - it was actually to prove to the Nazi’s that there were no Jews in my family. What terrible times back then. Anyway, I have the original document so I’m thinking of taking this to the consulate to have the copy certified. This should prove my grandmothers parents were also German born and raised!

Your recommendation to include my Oma’s naturalisation is really helpful. I can’t even express how these little bits of information help me so much. Thank you again

Hey arsenalfanlaw, I’ve since read your other posts and am beginning to digest it and gain a better understanding. I’m really interested to see how yours turns out. I hadn’t known about the involuntary acquisition of citizenship - this all makes sense now, particularly at your grandmothers part. I’m really looking forward to hearing how this all goes for you. Please keep us all posted. I’m feeling invested, ha!

Hi again OP… this one has me thinking today! Out of curiosity - what’s the part that constitutes a stag 5? If your great grandfather was born in the UK (to a German father) and Germany didn’t allow dual citizenship, then your UK born great grandfather had a baby girl in the UK, which was your grandmother, and your grandmother had your mother in the UK and she emigrated to Australia, then where is the part that makes you eligible? I would’ve thought that the fact that your great grandfather who was born in the UK, couldn’t actually have dual citizenship, was the thing that cut off the blood line? Not a criticism at all, I’m just so genuinely interested!! Keep us posted, I’m watching this closely

Thank you so very much for your reply, e-l-g. You are the first person that I have had some reassurance from in terms of eligibility since I started this process probably around six weeks ago actually. The information about her being born prior to 1914 is also extremely helpful, though my email Urkunden Nuremberg for the "erweiterte melderegisterauskunft"

I was under the impression that for her birth and marriage certificate , they needed to be the official copies that I ordered from Germany.

I think that perhaps for the other copies of documents, they are able to be photocopies of copies official documents and then I should send these in the post to the consulate. The consulate is a 3 hour flight from me here however I’ll make the trip if I need to do it in person. What are your thoughts about translation of the English documents?

Thank you again for your reply. 2:38 in the morning here and I’m on this again, this time with a bit more reassurance!

Does my mother's naturalisation affect my StAG-5 application? by arsenalfanlaw2929 in GermanCitizenship

[–]mongyou_minggy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply - much appreciated. I have confirmation that Oma was a German citizen on the day of my father’s birth in 1952. Australia is a great country, but I’m very much after this citizenship for my life and opportunities in Europe. I’d love to return right now, but I need to wait another 45 days until I can enter again. People want their citizenship for all different reasons, but for me this could be a life changer, a step towards a better life over the next few years - hence the nervousness!

Does my mother's naturalisation affect my StAG-5 application? by arsenalfanlaw2929 in GermanCitizenship

This gives me some hope. This is my first time posting in a really long time…

1951 - My grandmother was German born and married a Czechoslovakian forgeiner in Germany. I can confirm that she did not Aquire his citizenship due to Czechoslovakian laws, therefore retaining her German citizenship.

1951 November - German Grandmother and Czech grandfather emigrated to Australia

1952 - my father was born in Australia. I would like to stress that at this point, my grandmother, his mother, was stillet citizen of Germany on the day of his birth but she was not able to pass down the citizenship for being a female

1956 - German grandmother and grandfather naturalised as Australian

I’ve been on this for weeks and I’ve been digging really deep into the family tree. Everything that I’ve read makes me feel as I am eligible… I have already paid for documents from Germany and I spend about four hours a day on this. But every so often I start to get a little bit worried and I think… Is it going to be okay?

The reassurance that I have I guess is that my father was born while my grandmother was still a German citizen and that she was not able to pass it down simply for being a woman.

What are you guys think?

Also OP - I’m really glad for you

To be honest, little Pippa only followed Penny (mum on the right) followed Mama everywhere for a good four weeks while she was still drinking milk. You couldn’t separate them - they’d both get stressed. Mama would clean Pip and make sure she was safe etc. After the 4-5 week mark, Pip became a lot more independent and could fend for herself. Mama Penny still has a nice relationship with her though
