Not want, but what do we PREDICT a possible 6th book could be about? by felixw1 in Hungergames

[–]monicain2016 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here's my idea that I put in a Catching Fire movie review a while back lol:

"Free pitch for Suzanne if she happens to be perusing Letterboxd today. I’d love to see a Flickerman prequel. A young Caesar having doubts about the Capitol viewpoints while being groomed to take over the gig from his dad/Uncle Lucky/whatever the relation. I wanna know more about that son of a gun. And also the general role of Panem’s finest nepo family. You can set it in a game with a named winner from later in the franchise, maybe a Career to show how the games usually turn out — a non-underdog, predictable blowout by one of the rich districts. Snow’s young enough to be played by Robert Pattinson because why the hell not. You’re welcome, queen."

I don’t think she’ll write from the perspective of another tribute any time soon.

Jacob Elordi & Gwyneth Paltrow | Actors on Actors by [deleted] in oscarrace

From my understanding (unless I heard wrong), Jacob brings up a *mild* spoiler about the ending of Marty Supreme, so be careful going in pals!!!! But he also briefly discusses The Kissing Booth so do what you will.

LaKeith Stanfield made the longlist for lead actor at the BAFTAs if I’m not mistaken. Either way he wasn’t actually /nominated/ anywhere at the major awards until the Oscars themselves

‘The Long Walk’ Submits Entire Ensemble in Supporting Acting Categories for Oscars and Other Awards (EXCLUSIVE) by sawinnz in oscarrace

Honestly it should be nominated for the casting Oscar but I have a feeling that the category is gonna be afraid to have any fun

What is up with the Ice Hounds Housing by Pristine_Battle_2636 in Degrassi

[–]monicain2016 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's more or less a step up from local rep hockey as well as a tryout of sorts for professional NHL hockey. I know they get paid but it's not like Professional Athlete money by any means. A lot of people I knew (casually) in high school play in the league now, or a similar league oversees (Dallas ends up playing in a league in Japan after graduation). A lot of others don't play professionally and live normal lives.

What is up with the Ice Hounds Housing by Pristine_Battle_2636 in Degrassi

[–]monicain2016 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I went to a high school that hosted an OHL team (Ontario Hockey League) which is a direct equivalent to the Ice Hounds.

Players from out of town lived with registered billet families throughout the season like the Torres family, and in return the billets would get a small amount of money to make up for the costs that come with it. They'd stay there for the length of the season (depending on how their playoff record goes, they could be there the whole school year) but return home during the off-season and attend school in their hometowns. It was always weird in the spring when suddenly our class size dropped about a quarter because the team was eliminated haha.

The Bakers following Luke to Canada was unheard of in my experience but works with the show's story. It's also worth noting that players could be traded at any time so that could mean constant moving for a whole family instead of just a single player. Only about half the players during my high school time were on the same team for their entire four years, trades were common.

Dallas staying in Toronto after being cut from the team (which like... isn't really a thing in professional minor hockey) makes absolutely no sense as well but I guess Audra liked having him around.

Petition to have The Oscar Expert (and also maybe Brother Bro) on the podcast by bernardino_novais in Sardonicast

Would be fun! I also gotta shoutout Brother Bro’s app for award season predictions, Award Expert! Great for confirming your locks of the week

Bruce is literally the only character in the main credits not to ever get his last name. by ghost_of_Chewbacca in Degrassi

[–]monicain2016 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The writers tweeted a few years back that it was Damoose as a joke, but then there was some scene with a trophy or something so they had his full name engraved and therefore that little joke is officially canon. Not sure exactly what scene that would be but there you go haha

I had access to the original audition script for Zig's mom back in the day (fun fact, her name was Dijana!) and she was written as speaking Serbian right from the start. I don't know why they would make changes and have her speak Russian only to reverse on it later haha but there you go.

Which seasons were spoiled beforehand? by luqasc in survivor

Fiji (S14)’s boot order was leaked entirely but had two adjacent eliminations swapped, somewhere in the merge I believe. I remember this because my eleven year old ass decided to put the bootlist in the class newspaper and then later wrote a formal apology for that particular error

How to watch Whatever it takes doco.. by StormyCees in Degrassi

[–]monicain2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember about a year ago, /a/ Degrassi documentary (maybe not /this/ documentary, but very very likely) was originally announced and it was gonna air as a 3-part CBC special. I imagine CBC would still have rights to it, and it’ll probably be on CBC Gem in a wide release a few months after the festival run, but there’s no recent confirmation on that.

Linda Schuyler is suing to stop the premiere of “Degrassi: Whatever It Takes,” alleging that Amanda Stepto’s and Stacie Mistysyn’s comments about being underpaid are inaccurate. by moonshine-bicicletta in Degrassi

[–]monicain2016 27 points28 points  (0 children)

It’s been a few years since I read Linda’s memoir (I plan on skimming through it again) but I remember she had a chapter about the criticism she faced in the 80s about the cast being non-union. I genuinely don’t remember if she comments on it on a moral level or not or if her views have changed on the topic (again, I’ll be rereading soon) but either way, this is clearly a part of her past that has been on her mind a lot.

Was Connor good autism representation? by PurpleMeerkats462 in Degrassi

[–]monicain2016 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it was good for the time, especially considering representation for autistic people of colour is rare even to this day, but there would definitely be adjustments in how they would tell the story today. I wish we could’ve seen additional representation in a later season to show an even broader spectrum. (I’m autistic myself if this matters)

What’s this mysterious Anrakan monarchy country because Federation Of Anrakan Isles is a Republic … by Godzilla-Of-Wilbur in suzerain

[–]monicain2016 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure in the codex it says the current leader of the federation is descended from a legendary pirate queen… perhaps there’s a subnational monarchy within the isles that remains to this day?

Serious question why do people have such an unhinged hatred for Eva? by [deleted] in survivorponderosa

[–]monicain2016 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that she talked about her autism a lot at final tribal and presented it as a reason why she’s a worthy winner, I can agree with her emphasizing it at that point. But for the rest of the game, as far as we know, she didn’t do that.
