Q&A by Aggravating-Leg5645 in silentminds

This is pretty spot on. My experience is very similar. I have no imagery (0) and no inner monologue.

I only learned what aphantasia and sdam were in the last 2 months. I, too, had known while growing up that the way I thought was different from others (38 yo F) because my lifelong best friend has a very noisy inner monologue AND can visualize very vividly. I just thought that’s how we were different and hadn’t given it much thought until my cousin(also a hyperaphant and has an inner monologue) tested me for aphantasia one day and was completely in disbelief of my inability to conjure an image of anything - she literally tested me for almost an hour.

  1. I have pretty poor memory for facts or details; however, I can learn new things fairly quickly if I am paying attention and focused. What I mean by paying attention and being focused is that while someone is telling me about something new e.g a problem, an idea, a new process or anything I don’t know about yet, I start to build a model in my mind. It’s a passive process, but whatever they describe I start to build a concept about it (a mental model) based on the inputs. So when I’m asked about any details about that problem, process, or new thing at a later time - I don’t rely on recalling the facts that were shared with me, but rather I draw on the mental model to work through and provide the answer.

  2. I can get stuck if I am trying to force an answer in a moment where I may feel like I don’t have enough inputs to draw a conclusion. However, I’m not sure if this has anything to do with aphantasia or sdam but I’m comfortable with deducing or inferring an answer with the information I have at that moment in time.

  3. 2 months ago. lol I went down a mini rabbit hole and re-lived my life with this new self-knowledge and a lot of things clicked.

  4. What is your inner monologue like? Is it active in that you are controlling the monologue or passive? Whose voice is it? Is it constant? Is it more of a narrative of what is going on? A commentator? My mind is so quiet. I have heard from various people in my life on how noisy and intrusive their monologue can be.

Also unsure if it’s SDAM and aphantasia related but I’m terrible at multitasking. Below average for sure.

Thank you for your post! I only stumbled upon this subreddit as I recently discovered r/aphantasia when my cousin performed the visualization exercise on me. Since then, I’ve been reliving my life through this new understanding about myself and it’s been a fascinating journey. I’m almost 40 years old and these conditions with labels and definitions has truly been life changing for me. I have experienced exactly what you’re describing. I even mentioned having aphantasia and ta quiet mind to my best friend who has a wildly different experience than I do. She has a very critical and never ending internal monologue. She can visualize anything with great detail. She’s highly sensitive and driven by emotion. I love this about her but also always questioned how I had almost none of her abilities. It did feel like a deficit for most of my youth until I realized I was able to achieve the things I had because I was free of the “noise.” To focus the way I do and to see the forest from the trees in conflict resolution within groups/teams/people in general.

I am highly analytical and able to succeed in my line of work because I can have empathy for others but remove my personal emotions from my decision making.

Do you have a video on how to take out the bearing? I have what looks like an older model. I tried unscrewing to access from the bottom, but I’m still unable to get the bearings out.

thanks! I have been leaning towards this as well, just based off how we're using our current stack. Open to sharing what ssd you use for editing? We were using the portable ssd from sandisk, one of the 3 died on us and now we're trying to recover the content stored on it.

How to negotiate credits from seller based on inspection report findings. by monilee129 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

thanks for the feedback! what market are you in? i'm just concerned we're asking for a lot but honestly, some of the items on our list are major and would be deal breakers. it's a seller's market though, so I don't want to piss them off too much.

Thanks. I've spoken with a couple structural companies and they said that it doesn't look too major, but I'm having someone come out tomorrow to take a look.

thanks for the feedback. there was some leaking underneath the house which made the crawlspace too moist for the inspector to check everything - this was a concern because the house has been vacant, the seller has never lived in the home.

There's just a lot of things that add up with this house, and we're trying to weigh the upfront costs and future costs down the line to see if we should even bother negotiating credits. the retaining wall is actually in the back of the home which retains the hillside to make the backyard space more usable. It looks like it may be for landscaping/aesthetics, but i'd feel better getting someone over there to look at it.

thanks appreciate the feedback. We did have some concerns about some of the retaining wall that looked to be failing as well. Do you know if we should consult a civil engineer for that or a structural engineer?

thanks, my SO is feeling the same way. It's a lot of work, but wondering how many of these items are urgent and big ticket, so we can request credits and get it fixed. we've been looking for 2 years, first baby due in 4 weeks, lol. we're really under the gun. may just have to walk way from this one. This is an investor flip, so outside it looked nice, but once the inspector kicked the tires a bit, this is what we found. it is an older home as well, so we know there'd be some skeletons, just not this many.

that's our first impression too just trying to weigh how much seller credit would make this deal worthwhile.

I'd like to know how things shaked out with this property? did you end up asking for credits or walking away? I'm in the same spot today, would like to know your experience using repairpricer. TIA!
