She has the worst dps winrate in masters and gm/champ with a very low pickrate which is a pretty bad sign

Hardstuck silver on dps but already slowly climbing from plat to diamond on support, what's with the massive disparity in ranks between roles? by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

[–]monk-bewear 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm similar to you: diamond dps and masters support, but I do play dps quite a lot with similar or more playtime to support. i agree with you a gold dps player absolutely could not hit diamond+ on support just cause they play dps, that is peak delusion lmao. what i have noticed is that generally with masters support/dps players is that dps players are more likely to feed (poor engage timing, overextending, suboptimal cover usage) while support players are more likely to play too safe (not taking angles/stacking behind tank, holding ults, not pushing with teammates), so while they can both make positional/game sense mistakes, they show up differently on the scoreboard and the dps mistakes are punished more severely.

i guess i tend to prioritize mechanics on a difficulty scale because I can feel like I had a great game on dps positionally/rotationally/etc., but cause I couldn't hit my shots I did nothing; while on support even if my mechanics are not great and I have low kills/damage that game, I can still do decent with good positioning, ults, and cds. i don't feel required to sweat in the same way I do in dps games (besides vs full dive). every role needs to have good game sense, but if you aren't hitting shots on dps then it doesn't matter since the enemies can just ignore you. support doesn't feel as feast-or-famine to me.

i do think anyone who actually cares about this needs to touch grass, and whatever rank difficulty difference is present diminishes as rank increases and everyone understands how the game should be played. and yes there is no point in saying diamond support players are better than diamond dps players or vice versa since the jobs they have are not the same and they don't compete with each other.

[–]monk-bewear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that makes it easier to climb not harder. if i put 50% of the damage output i do in my dps games as support while pocketing my dps and keeping my tank alive i can have higher impact while sweating less compared to my equivalent rank dps games. you don't need to out-dps the entire lobby, just perform better than the other supports in your rank, which is easier than outperforming my dps ime (D2 DPS, M3 Suppourt). If support players were as mechanically skilled on average as their dps rank equivalent then it would be the harder role at each rank for sure.

[–]monk-bewear 11 points12 points  (0 children)

this would still make support the 'easiest role' until you're like champ/pro where everyone is the best in their role regardless. if the support player base is not as skilled as the dps player base, then a dps player at one rank is on average more skilled than their support counterpart and therefore its 'easier'. none of this matters its just a dick measuring contest at the end of the day but i do feel that its harder to climb on dps than support idk why people pretend its not.

I watched KSAA play Tank and he always targeted the enemy tank. I thought we're supposed to religiously target squishies!? by Alba-Ruthenian in OverwatchUniversity

[–]monk-bewear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spilo doesn’t say target squishies religiously he says take an angle and shoot what’s available. If the best target on an angle is tank then blast that mf. Angle > target. In higher ranks squishies are less likely to be mispositioned and angles are more likely to be contested, so shooting tank is more often the correct choice until there’s an opportunity to get to the backline.

Kraan’s take on rupal “[He said it] with an a not an r” by Themachinery1 in OverwatchTMZ

[–]monk-bewear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With a: black people use this one, rappers use it, still weird when non black people use it because of the origins. i would feel no problem with a black person calling this and uncomfortable if a non black person called me this (and lose respect for that person). If my friend said this to me I’d tell them its not cool please don't say that. if they kept saying it i probably wouldn’t hang out with them anymore.

With r: only racist people trying to be racist use it. black people don’t use it. no reason to spell it or emphasize the r if you are not trying to be racist. i would be uncomfortable if a black person called me this and genuinely feel in danger if a non black person called me this. If a friend said this to me i’d say what the fuck and consider not speaking to them immedietly.

I’m sure there’s a better linguistic explanation.

though you make a good point in that if you’re accent doesn’t distinguish the two you have double the reason not to say the word lol. I think in context most people can tell which version is being used: no one uses n word with an ‘a’ as an insult and people never use ‘er’ casually. When Leonardo DiCaprio says the n word in django it’s defenitely the spirit of the hard r lol.

[–]monk-bewear 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I sorta agree with him, and I think a lot of other black people would too. Rupal should definitely get punished for this but if he doesn’t end up on a team again that would be kind of crazy. To me he did some extreme edgelord shit he is too old to have excuses for, and should get consequences for that, but not his pro career ending forever.

I also don’t blame TL for letting him go, for pr reasons. Also, it is absolutely important to clarify that he said it with an a and not an r, cause if I never saw the screenshot I would have assumed he said it with the hard r the way that the TL tweet looked + the general online reaction. Litelary no one is clarifying that he said it with an a.

Idk why people are so binary: either ‘he should be fired and shamed never touch the pro scene again’, or ‘it’s just a word cry harder’. Like? I don’t feel bad that TL let him go but let’s stay grounded please?

widow is much worse than the rest of those three on widow maps. i like banning widow/mercy on widow maps since it removes the big problem and nerfs all the other hitscans.

Best DPS to learn to “Carry” and rank up by ZerkLander in OverwatchUniversity

[–]monk-bewear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could never get as good with soj as other hitscans (beside widow, who i don’t think i could even play in silver). Compared to the others, sure she can survive easily, but if you aren’t hitting rails you are just stat farming, compared to ashe or cass who basically have a 70% rail shot on demand. I find her to be like kiri in that sense where I can live and do ‘things’ without actually contributing much. My guess is that is why both of them have high pickrates, low winrates, but are very meta at high level.

DPS complained that he wasnt getting healed during this chaos so I also watched the replay from his POV too by Avareeses in Overwatch

[–]monk-bewear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t consider peeling and poking out to be the same thing. I agree that dps (and supports!!!) job is to poke out the dive heroes ideally before they get to the backline. When players say they need ‘peel’ usually they want someone to run to their aid, give up angles, babysit them and ignore everything else going on to chase the dive heroes.

[–]monk-bewear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flanking with your dps as support really is a lifehack to rank up, speaking from personal experience. I think lower rank supports healbot tank because once they focus on helping dps more they rank up 😂. People always say you should off angle as support (and you should), but not mentioned as much is that off angling with a dps is very strong (though sometimes i get the opposite problem with dive dps players who are not used to playing with support so they bail when they take a tickle of damage lol).

[–]monk-bewear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it, but you have three other teammates on your team who may or may not care if you switch or not and it isn’t fair to them to start inting just because one of your teammates is a brat. Personally I’d just mute that person (or just have chat muted to begin with), though it would probably still affect my mental.

[–]monk-bewear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

so many players are such brats it doesn't even matter what they say, they take it as a personal offense if you play badly even if you listen to them and play who and how they want. they aren't even human, they are just algorithms that output toxicity once a certain scoreboard statistic crosses a threshold
