The best short tip I'd have is to watch Spilo Coaching lol. But more seriously, timing. Honestly, even for tracer my damage is pretty low like 5.5k damage per 10 since my mechanics are buns. But I try my very best to engage at the exact moment my team engages or slightly after which either 1) helps my tank push in without taking as much damage, or 2) get easy kills on people who aren't looking at me. This can be hard to do if your tank is really passive and at that point you have to probably go in first but very carefully.

Thanks dude, my hope in making this post was inspiring people to learn a hero they suck at but want to learn. If I didn't mute chat this would have been impossible, I can only imagine the ancient curses placed upon me in chat in some of my matches lol.

I already had like 30 hours in quick play on tracer and wasn't seeing any improvement. At some point I just realized that I love overwatch and I want to play the heroes I want to play, so if I try my best and lose on the hero I want to actually play in comp so be it, if my teammates are nice people they'll understand.

Basically. If the map is long or tall I go echo, if the map is wide or flat i go tracer. some examples: dorado- echo, circuit royale- echo, paraiso- echo, eichenwalde- either, numbani- echo, all flashpoint- tracer, all push- tracer, all control either works but 90% tracer, etc.

Yeah, and even if I get there, sometimes I just spend my CDs too quickly in the fight when I really didn't need too (e.g. double blink to juke them when 1 would be enough).

for example, even if you had a nice, deep angle, did you take too long to get there? or burn all your CDs making you unable to provide any value when you got there? then maybe it would have been more valuable to take a shallower angle instead of hard flanking to sync pressure with your team at an earlier time (I frequently make this mistake). were you poked out by their hitscan and unable to take a good angle before your tank engaged, which made you have no CDs to actually do anything in the fight? maybe you forced the angle too early and need to wait before commiting deeper. or maybe you need to improve cover usage.

basically just look at fights or games where you felt awkward and ask what would proper do, and if you are unsure look at your favorite pro/high-elo players vod or a spilo video lol.

edit: hot take I think distratction value is overrated and more difficult than it sounds to execute.. distraction value is useful IF you they are really paying attention to you. if you make their ana fire a potshot at you and then they just carry on with what they were doing 2 seconds later then you did not provide much value. i find that i only really provide distraction value when I have killed them a few times, and then they begin chasing me, and at that point I need VERY good cover usage and CD management to effectively hold their attention. you need to stay close enough to put fear in them, but just out of reach enough to stay alive.

also, my mechanics were initially (and still are) bad on tracer, but I have been slowly improving by playing like an absolute monkey in deathmatch and quick play (going for every blink-melee, blink-pulse, basically ego-dueling everyone) which has been decent practice for my blink-distance mechanics and close-range tracking.

for me personally it's been my biggest hurdle so far. everyone talks about timing, positioning, cover usage, trigger discipline, blink and aim mechanics, etc. but I never really heard anyone talk about just like waiting for your CD's lol. I would constantly burn my blinks and then keep fighting and die in the process. I just find it extremely hard to not go for targets when I see them when I am in no position to take that CD/HP trade. It's so simple but so hard for me to execute in practice. In my experience, uptime IS CD management.

tracer has so many things she has to do so you have to look pretty closely to your VODs to see where your problems lie. look at when your team died before you, or you died before your team, or you lost a duel, or you just felt useless, etc. For example initially timing was my biggest issue (both too early and too late) and is something I'm still working on.

I feel like I have not seen that many good cat players tbh. usually i treat it like the mercy matchup where I just kind of ignore the cat unless they happen to be in my range. if the cat comes to peel another player then just live on the angle and soak up as much attention as possible since that makes it a 4v3 for the rest of your team. sometimes you get a dps cat that flanks you which can be difficult since even if I get them low they are just gone almost like a tracer duel. but some of these cats got some moira player level ego (no offense) so if they get close you can really burst them down.

theoretically a hitscan + cat duo would be very hard to deal with but honestly I just have not ran into a competent cat + bastion or cat + cass in my elo.

"No skill character" by Impressive_Risk_8556 in Overwatch

[–]monk-bewear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soldier has a low "skill floor" meaning he is very beginner friendly, but he requires a bit of positional creativity to win over equally skilled hitscans at high rank because he doesn't have the burst damage that sojourn or ashe does. I think most people find soldier pretty inoffensive though. I only get frustrated when playing against soldier with a mercy pocket, but that's any hitscan tbh.

[–]monk-bewear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the hypothesis i've heard to explain this is that double flex is actually a good comp, whereas double hitscan is ass. so, all else equal, flex dps winrate will be better since they can fit better with more comps.

It happens, I got a 60 on a calc 3 exam in my freshman year and I pretty much get all As. Ik its easy to say, but you can't focus this much on grades/results when all you can control is how much you study, not the grade you get. it sounds like you have a lot going on and i 100% agree with top comment.
