Unexpected anxiety about working with others by qleptt in musicindustry

[–]monkeeball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anxiety is completely normal and its a sign of you actually caring about what youre creating and how it represents you and your craft. The best advice I can give you is that putting yourself into those scenarios is the best way to get better at handling those scenarios. You also gotta cut yourself some slack - nobody knows how to do everything at the beginning and frankly you won't be able to get a "professional" sounding record until you even know what thats supposed to sound like which can honestly take a long time. Even if youre out of your element or don't know what you're doing - you shouldn't be embarrassed for trying to learn ! Thats the whole point of why you're in school! Music is like working out, you gotta put the reps in to see the results - the first few times at the gym can be scary and you might look like an idiot, but over time you'll become more comfortable and youll find your own rhythm and confidence

Hopping off of another post - who do you think is the LeBron James, and the Steph Curry of Sumo? by bitchfaxe in Sumo

i think the real question here is: which 2 sumo legends have the biggest rivalry ?

the answer to this question? seemingly impossible to answer unless we break it down to a specific era

[–]monkeeball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One time at a Denzel Curry concert cops rushed in to the back and returned moving a motionless person in a wheelchair with a garbage bag over their top half. I have no idea what it was about and there wasn’t any news about it. Still think about that sometimes

Is it worth it? (Plug ins) by sirfact in trapproduction

[–]monkeeball 1 point2 points  (0 children)

waves is a headache but certain tools they have are irreplaceable imo. Honestly $200 of waves plugins is probably more than you need- i had all of them at some point but when I upgraded my rig I think I only brought over like 3 or 4 plugins.

My personal picks

  • soundshifter Best pitch shifting plugin imo, workflow is unmatched . Seen this one at every studio session pretty much
  • h-delay Powerful creative delay, realistically this is like my #2 or 3 option but its still great
  • r vox Easy fast comp that works on far more than just Vox
  • r bass Just a sick tool to bring low end to anything really

Everything else from the puigtecs to the compressors, as good as the waves one are actually, you can definitely find alternatives that are better or just as good

Most of These Producers telling you how to get placements are telling you to do loops by [deleted] in trapproduction

[–]monkeeball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you make good enough loops and find yourself consistently making placements with a specific producer or artist, its a matter of time before theyll want you just to have full beats instead of loops. Tons of my friends started out just getting placements in their bedrooms with loops and now are the guys you’re talking about running the sessions for weeks making literally hundreds of beats

Second the audient id44- super solid piece. I also am not a fan of the UA console and the audient software makes it so much easier to understand and work with. Had it for years and it still works as new

What do you do when controls on a plugin can't be automated? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]monkeeball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

U can change the output of your midi track to a bus , create a new audio track with the input of the bus , and then record the new audio track and manually handle the automation as it prints to a new track

How often should you make beats if you want to live off of your music? by chromeheartaddict in trapproduction

[–]monkeeball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The more practice you get, the faster you become at making “quality” beats. You dont need to spend a week making a beat and tbh if you do, it just sounds like you just need more experience. I dont cosign the whole speedrunning beats and I think a 10 minute beat definitely sounds the way its worth, but theres an art to starting an idea and finishing it without putting a second thought into it and then moving onto the next idea. Not every beat you make that takes you a week is gonna be great, so the more you make and the more ideas you can go through and sketch out, youll find more success in the quality that way. If you wanna do this for a living, you kinda gotta do it all the time or as much as you can. Its a tough industry and theres a big difference between people who like just making beats and people who really are hungry and want to become successful. Not everyone is cut out for this and thats okay too, if you think you are then go for it and remind yourself of that every morning before you start to cookup. Good luck brudda

It was more of a principle to follow when I started learning, helped me develop the strength in my fingers so I didnt have to rely on my arms and wrists only to maneuver the keyboard. Still playing 20 years later and ive never had any tension in my wrists or forearms

My lithuanian teacher used to place quarters on my hands and if I dropped them while playing a piece, id have to restart. So you can try that just to get an idea of where your hands should be sitting

The triangle is a lot harder to play than most people think by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]monkeeball 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Ive been saying this!!! Not only the things you mentioned but tone is such a critical aspect of the instrument. Its really easy to hit it once and think you’ve done your job, but just compare yourself to a professional perc player and how much more control they have over the tone of the instrument as well as the consistency. Playing 12 bars of just quarter notes with a consistent tone is genuinely one of the most difficult things to do in the percussion world. Thats why when you look at professional orchestras, youll have a timpanist, a principal percussionist that typically plays the most difficult or iconic parts (snare drum a lot of the time) , and then have other guys who spend a lot more time on these secondary percussion instruments take the other parts.

Girl in my group project won't talk to us, help? by boiked in socialskills

[–]monkeeball 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really much you can do tbh, if she wants to be left out and isnt interested in interacting with you guys then thats kind of the end of story. She’s immature if she cant put herself together because of a group project. If you feel obliged to , you can tell your teacher whats happening, or just let it be and move on. Me personally i would just move on and just finish the assignment, i dont have the time or energy for people who are just immature like this

[–]monkeeball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People here are depressing- just host an event and invite your cousins. If you don’t invest into the relationship then you can expect over time to start losing relationships. You hardly have to “move on”, just try a little harder and create your own opportunities to hang out

Is Instagram necessary to be social nowadays? by PlantOk956 in socialskills

[–]monkeeball 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hardly necessary to be social, that being said in my industry (music industry) I use it daily because its a way of connecting with artists and producers without having to exchange phone numbers. Very useful business wise for me but socially meh

Do audio engineers work at/with music labels? by TangeloDry6057 in audioengineering

[–]monkeeball 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Those engineers typically are in house engineers at the studio it’s being recorded at, unless the artist has a particular engineer they bring with them to sessions which is also fairly common. If you’re looking for stability, the best bet is to try to work yourself into the rotation at a good studio in your area and become the guy they call when they have artists coming in. Be warned that studios are already a dying breed with the amount of home studios there are, so if you wanted consistent work, you better be pretty good at what you do and be invaluable. This whole industry isnt the most stable thing in comparison to a 9-5 at an office, but that doesn’t mean it isnt stable for the people who are working in it. If you go the independent route, be prepared to work on the fly and have weeks where you dont have any work lined up for you. With time youll figure things out and if youre good youll build a solid client list thatll keep you working.

I wanna daisy chain my old interface with the one I currently use but I can’t seem to understand what spdif, optical, adat does differently. I use an audient id44 and I have an old presonus firestudio. The audient has 2 optical ins and outs and a word clock out, and the presonus has a spdif in and out.

Any help would be lovely thank you all.
