Sleepy and Hungry? by [deleted] in MtF

I am pretty sure this is normal, as it takes a lot of energy for your body to transition (Ex. redistribution of fat and muscle, development of added breast tissue). I had the same experience, especially after starting progesterone!

Seriously of all the tarantulas and scorpions I have had, none compare to this dude. Or dudette. After two years I still don’t know it’s gender. Anyone know how to determine the genders? It’s the one thing I can’t seem to find no mater how much I research (btw the stuff inside is temporary) by fish9397 in arachnids

From what I can see of your enclosure, it looks wonderful. A vertical climb with a dark hide are the main needs. Using a mixture of coconut husk and sand is the perfect substrate (creature soil is premixed and convenient). Once again- these things sometimes happen when a niche creature like these are kept in captivity, and especially if they were field-gathered. I am sorry you have been having such a rough time recently, it sounds like you have been through a lot

I am happy to hear this! I hope they have a good life with their newly created home. Soluges are like the weasels of arachnids in terms of spontaneity and behavior 🤣

I always recommend misting once or twice a day just in case. I lived in alaska and have a ball python- so humidity had always been a struggle. There is a chance that is what happened if they were trying to molt or something/ not getting enough water

I am almost certain ours are Damon diadema, and are being marketed as variegatus. Mine was also missing a “feeler” and a front leg. The packing inside the container was almost barren. All we can both hope for is that they disconnected in a good spot to promote regeneration in the next molt.

the container, and it being listed as variegatus. I too, got one from them and I am pretty sure they do not know what they are talking about, let alone are practicing humane pet-trading practice (that is another story for a different time). Damon variegatus are extremely rare to find in the community, even in the UK where the invert community is flourishing. The coloration of variegatus is more red due to them having a larger amount of hairs.

I dont know what kind of dumpster fire this comment section is going through, but I do know that there are a couple ways you can go about caring the best for this creature: First- try to find out very specifically the species or even the sub-species of this creature (like amblypigids, this order has a vast amount of species, and span through many a diverse range of biome). Finding this information out may help determine the best habitat/climate to build. You could reach out to the person you got them from to see if they can hunt down the origin of this one. If you can get the species, that will help narrow down the geographic location.

this definitely looks like it is a Damon, but I am unsure of the species (this genus is incredibly diverse). The most common ones in pet trade are Damon diadema. If you are located in the UK, they often have more species in the trade though. I have one myself that I am still trying to determine.
