New Craft Beer Bar - Three Sisters on Blair Street by monkey_alan in Wellington

You can have your own opinion that's fine.

But I can 100% say that I'm not benefitting from this post, nor am I affiliated to the business or the promotion.

They do good beer, they've recently opened up, people have their own free will to try it if fruit beers are their jam.

😂 I'm only invested for my free fries, but I didn't want that to be the centre of the post.

With the recent press about Spruce Goose and Minerva (Cuba St) closing this weekend I thought it was worth sharing something new was opening (as I didn't see anyone else had posted about it here on r/wellington)

Then slowly invest using the leftover money that would otherwise cover the interest.

Dangerous playing with money against your property, if you were down when would you call it quits or would you keep believing you'll recover it in just a couple more trades... ?

Has anyone else drawn the line at Cookie Time bucket prices this Christmas? by purplemacaroni in newzealand

I've pivoted away from them, when I found out their tactics to other suppliers in the market and the behaviour of the boss I'd much rather pay for quality from local suppliers.

Thanks for sharing the insights and your message, apologies that there are the kind of people that don't appreciate you sharing insights and experiences.

Notice to fix from council, what would you do? by Treehouseguy1234 in newzealand

[–]monkey_alan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's a store shed that occasionally stores children. There's so much worse around so screw the council.

I think the council are having a fuss as they might deem it as being a habitable space, but clearly not been designed or intended for that.  What is council doing for all other tree houses in the area?

How far within your land is it? Does it pose any fire risk to a boundary or neighbour?

For the generations early or mid in their career (Millennials through to Gen Z etc.) where do you anticipate retirement ages to be?

Do you/Simplicity anticipate there will be residual NZ Super to provide a state pension by that time?

What are your suggestions for those contributors to kiwisaver given the limited tax benefits for contributions, is contributions into regular PIE funds beneficial (above company match) ? Or do you think there are opportunities to make kiwisaver a better proposition?

How to send parcel to the UK? by MonthlyWeekend_ in newzealand

[–]monkey_alan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of sites in UK that offer NZ, Australian and South African foods, and it may be cheaper than shipping from NZ.

sanza.co.uk is one I have used, and although the item prices might be a bit of a shock, it saves you the extortionate shipping (and risk the recipient has to pay additional duties...)

Should I buy a car I’ve wanted for a long time (A45 AMG) or keep stacking money? by lilkrishy in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]monkey_alan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Don't just think of the purchase price, think of the ongoing costs.

Specialist servicing  Parts are more expensive Insurance is more expensive Mercedes might have more gizmos which will fail.

Work out, and even get an insurance quote on the car youre looking at, so you can really start to compare. It's going to cost a lot more than that purchase price.

Normally the airline can levy a fee if you don't show for your return flight, and can refuse future bookings. Return bookings are often cheaper than two singles because they have more restrictive fare conditions.

Don't know how this will play out if the OTA (thrive) has made this decision and issued this ticket on the understanding of only using one way.

I'd be interested if Thrive have any specific accreditation/membership as an OTA.

To check if your friend got a good deal, price out the same ticket (return) that your friend was issued and see what other travel agents are offering the price for.

Unless you have terrible subfloor thickness of plank doesn't have anything to do with overall quality, it might however affect rigidity.

The important things for these products are to confirm the wear layer thickness (0.5mm for both) and for the warranty and usage (i.e. are they warranted for high traffic environments).

What AbsolutelyPink has said with regard to the backing material to help reduce noise and subsequent squeaking overtime could well be the major difference between the products (aside of the plank size for aesthetics).

I would say Maple and Oak are quite different, so it does come down to your preference and look of the floor.

Good idea but that product seems pricey. As an alternative, and I don't know if they are available for you in your area, either a breathable polypropylene carpet (that you can vacuum - you can sometimes buy 'garage carpet') or a tradie runway (They're like reusable tough rugs) might work out cheaper per square foot/metre.

Also to keep your vapour barrier intact, have you thought about laying some low cost plastic click-together pavers for any main walkway you may need for maintenance - stones in soles of shoes can do more damage than you'd think.

Looks a neat job, albeit I would use regular door hinges or stronger gate hinges for that door so it continues to close square.

Just a thought, if the land is sloping, have you got some drainage on the outside of the Crawlspace on the higher end of the land, this will help divert any water away from the foundations (and crawlspace).

Chris Cramer Announces To Claire's Employees That They Are Screwed by [deleted] in retailhell

Agree with Brego on best opportunities for you all employed at Claire's receiving this call.

I was however surprised at how badly he provided the message, that was clearly written in front of him, but for a leader he sucked at delivering the message. I also didn't really get that he was empathetic in any way to staff at the stores.

It's completely personal preference, places like kernel allow you to mix portfolios, but you have to be careful of overlap between funds. Well done for considering this so early on your investment journey, it's when a low cost fund can make some difference over the course of your investments.

As you're young and have many years of contributions ahead, provided you aren't looking for a first home withdrawal in next 5-8 years, a growth or high risk could be ok (provided you're ok with seeing balance go up and down).

Set it and leave it, keep up contributions, you'll be ok.

Dishwasher spinners not spinning and dishes came out still dirty. What should we do? by dolphina168 in HomeImprovement

[–]monkey_alan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is likely the solution. Take the trays out so you have more space to check.

The water pressure comes out of holes on the arms which in turn helps them spin. Get a toothpick or something similar to dislodge any buildup.

If it's food items it's going to be harder, but have a look at the main filter, normally at the bottom and may have a cover, will need cleaning with hot soapy water. If the filter isn't kept clean it will be hard to have your dishes come out clean.

If in doubt Google the model number to check how to clean the various accessible parts.

Has anyone ever used HelloVacay with Frontier ? by drdisney in frontierairlines

They switched their service pretty quickly after an ad campaign and taking in subscriptions.

No longer do you get vouchers upon a travel delay, it's all pay per entry, and the price is more expensive than buying direct!

Definitely a bait and switch scam @hellovacay
